my synology nas is working correctly in regards to oplocks, that canĀ“t be the reason - at least not for me.

got another theory here :

most of my 720p movies (H.264 mkvs with AC3) play fine with zero buffering since day 1, but randomly on most TV rips (Web 720p) there's some buffering
Until recently that is ...

Got one Show here (Justified) and all episodes have buffering during the starting credits (usually 5 mins in), and then during random scenes (higher bitrate maybe ?)

Same file, when remuxed to m4v for aTV2 plays perfectly fine natively, which got me thinking since xbmc is using same VideoToolbox ... the only difference is that aTV caches the video and then feeds to VideoToolbox, whereas xbmc feeds in what it reads (?)

Maybe during high-bitrate scenes, VideoToolbox uses more resources which makes xbmc buffer slowly than normal ? This probably won't happen on aTV natively since the cache is local, and it'll give the buffering enough breathing space to cope in such a scenario ?

So does xbmc have the ability to cache the whole video like aTV ?

RaginBajin Wrote:I'm curious to know if the same issue happens on a Windows 2008 Server vs a windows xp or windows 7 box.

i'm running server 2008, my atv2 is wired to a 100mb router.
I used GP rc6.

I don't have buffering-problems, except with 1080p-content.
With 1080p, it's actually strange, in the first few minutes the videocache goes up and down, but never under 50%, but then all of a sudden it just drops to 0 pretty fast...

If they could get dvd's up and running, I'd be very happy with my little box Smile

Just solved the issue! I've connected in my router and found a hidden option that was turning it in a 802.11b/g router... changed to allow only 802.11g and now it's running without buffer and with an average speed of 1mb/s over Filezilla Server and 802.11g.

I did this as well that I found in another forum:
Fix was a different registry key (affects Windows 7 and Vista):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Services ->LanmanServer ->Parameters

Create a DWORD entry SMB2. Value will default to 0 which is correct.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Services ->LanmanServer ->Parameters

Change the entry 'Size' from 1 to 3.

Hello,

I'm using a NAS(Synologic DS211j) to stream my movies to the ATV2.
When using a samba share the movies(1080p) are buffering all the way.
But using UPNP the same movies stream fine Smile

But, why?

Greetings,
Urkman

I had the same situation. Samba buffered, UPNP was fine. I think there's a problem with Windows 7 and Samba shares as there's lots of people that have problems with the speed over samba.

elcaballo Wrote:Just for fun, I restored and re-jailbroke with greenpois0n RC6.1. Installed latest (3/05) nightly. Buffering is worse, if anything. Now I'm noticing that even 2 gig h264 mkvs (~45 min 720p TV shows) are unwatchable in SMB library mode. Files play for a couple minutes and then buffer every minute after that.

Load them up in PS3MediaServer and they play perfectly. This is a pain, though, as PS3MS doesn't seem to scan folders for new files unless the program is restarted, which means remote desktop-ing in to quit the program.

Maybe the ATV2 just lacks the memory to handle HD file streaming across a home network?

Would it be possible for you to upload this nightly build somewhere or a newer version?

Or someone else? Still stuck using the May 15th build and would like to try a more recent version.

Yes I installed that package, I can see my ATV via AFP from another mac but mount_afp still isn't there. I tried to copy the version from my Mini to the AFP but of course it complains about CPU incompatibility.

any solution for this?

How about we solve non working keys on your keyboard first?

My ATV2 buffers on very high quality movies fairly often on a Wireless N connection. Switching to wired soon, hopefully it'll fix it. I also have a PS3 Media Server setup as well that has zero issues with buffering. Just the occasional hiccup. Swapping to uPnP on the ATV2 through the PS3MS didn't help a ton, either.

I need help!

I have jailbreaked my ATV2 4.2 with seasonpass and installed XBMC with NitoTV.
I have my files on a Ready nas Duo NAS with a 2TB new HDD in it.
I have a Netgear router with Gbit-ports and I have wired ALL the way. From NAS-router-ATV2.
When I play regular .avi it runs smoothly but .mkv files just buffer and studder like crazy, cant watch it Sad

Can anyone give me some tips?
(Before I had an PS3 and streamed on the same way with PMS and then .mkv runned very smooth.)

Thanks for help!!

Hello,

I'm suffering buffering issue when movie is >1Gb.
My system:
-AppleTV2 (seasonpass)
-XBMC Built on Sep 16 2011
-Nito
-SMB server win7-64bit

I tried

[1]
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Services ->LanmanServer ->Parameters
Create a DWORD entry SMB2. Value will default to 0 which is correct.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Services ->LanmanServer ->Parameters
Change the entry 'Size' from 1 to 3.

[2]
netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled

[3]
guisettings.xml

<dvdrom>8192</dvdrom>
<lan>8192</lan>
</cachedvd>
<cacheunknown>

</cacheunknown>
<cachevideo>
<dvdrom>2048</dvdrom>
<internet>8192</internet>
<lan>8192</lan>
</cachevideo>

Anything else I can try ?

Thx.

You can try making sure the files are in the correct format, and for the love of gods, post logs.

- sezb51 - 2011-09-21

Below the avi info.
For the xbmc log please refer to: http://pastebin.com/6PehFD7J

Please note that if I play that avi on a win7-latop connected via wifi on same smb server, it play just fine without any interruption. So the avi is not corrupted!

Thx.
