Best way to stream large collection of music to XBMC - marcusjb - 2011-02-13

I have a large collection of music (9000+) on my home server that I want to stream to my office. I'm currently using subsonic, but I want something that will integrate my collection into XBMC.

Any suggestions.

In the same building or over the web? For the former, smb does just fine. For the latter you'll probably want something else.

over the web.

You're probably going to have to select 2 solutions. I don't know of anything besides subsonic that will stream over the web. As for streaming to your XBMC box, I'm assuming you don't just want to map a SMB/NFS share and read the files themselves, you'll need a uPnP or DAAP server.

That being said, the API for subsonic looks very straightforward, maybe some kind souls with some time to spare will write an addon.

just in case you come across this post, the subsonic addon has happened and works like a charm:
