I have a 60gb OCZ Vertex 2 and after loading up Win7 64 bit and XBMC I have about 27gb of space left. This is why I went with a 60gb ssd instead. - eskro - 2011-03-01 windows fits perfectly on a 30GB SSD... - poofyhairguy - 2011-03-02 Windows fits on a 30GB as long as its just Windows and XBMC. You want Office, games, etc, go bigger... - eskro - 2011-03-02 windows tales ~16GB.... so on a 30GB SSD, you got plenty of space XBMC + APPLICATIONS However, i agree that, if your a heavy duty gamer, you'll have to go 60GB SSD... if not, a 30GB is for you - tboooe - 2011-03-02 eskro Wrote:windows tales ~16GB.... Strange, all I have is Win7 Home Premium 64 bit + xbmc installed on my 60gb OCZ SSD and it says I only have 27gb left...This was a fresh install of Win7 OEM without an extra applications. - eskro - 2011-03-02 your an exception i guess... many users bought 30GB SSD's for running windows + XBMC... nothing new here.. maybe u have many windows language packs installed on your system... check here on how to uninstall them http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/28/how-to-install-or-unistall-language-packs-mui-or-lip-lpcab-in-windows-7/ and also my XBMC installation weights 412MB total.... - Laserray - 2011-03-02 eskro Wrote:your an exception i guess... I have the same result, but I did load v3.6 Dark Edition and it loads a bunch of goodies. - eskro - 2011-03-02 @Laserray: and your results are? - Laserray - 2011-03-02 eskro Wrote:@Laserray: and your results are? about 26-27 gigs - eskro - 2011-03-02 well your using an un-official windows version so, those come pre-bloated with stuff... Also, have you optimized your SSD? http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=95334 Doing so reclaims disk space! - tboooe - 2011-03-02 Laserray Wrote:about 26-27 gigsI have an official version with nothing on it. That being said, I checked around some more and my 60gb OCZ Vertex 2 is only showing 51gb of available space. Since I have about 28gb of storage left, that means Win7+XBMC+Mysql+VLC takes up about 23gb of space. My xbmc thumbnails folder alone is 3gb and Mysql is 0.5gb. That leaves about 19gb for Windows. I guess my install is pretty consistent. The questions now is why my 60gb SSD is only showing 51gb available? Thats a 15% decrease. Given the price of these SSD, that is a lot. Have I been swindled by OCZ? Do other SSDs also have this type "less than advertised space" issue? - eskro - 2011-03-02 there something weird going on in your system tboooe.... not sure what it is as im not in front of it.... Like i said, many bought the 30GB Kingston SSD to hold win7+XBMC and no one complained about lack of space... i really wonder whats going on in your system.... - tboooe - 2011-03-03 Ok, after some research, I found this article:. It explains why I only have 51gb out of 60gb available. http://www.overclockers.com/oczs-25nm-vertex-2-performance-issues/ - eskro - 2011-03-03 without me reading the article, can u tell me why? |
