Alaska Revisited - Home images dissappeared - sdesign - 2011-02-24

All of a sudden today my home images dissappeared. I'm using an ATV2 with Alaska Revisited v2.82 using the default home layout.

I've tried deleting guisettings.xml, and even deletting the entire/private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/XBMC folder and starting everything from scratch. Nothing works. Still no images in the standard view.

When I go to skin settings I can see the images there as default under Home Artwork, but nothing is appearing on the home screen.

I have also tried changing the image from the default using my own image, but this won't appear on the home screen either.

Is this a bug with the latest version of alaska revisited?

Thanks, SD

Where do I find the alaska debug log?

- Hando - 2011-02-24

Not a bug. I had the same experience - it's because Alaska R has auto updated in the background and unfortunately the new version of the skin needs a recent nightly build to work properly.

Grab a recent nightly build of xbmc and your fanart will be back.

OT - it would be nice if add-ons checked compatibility with current xbmc version before updating, I didn't really want to make the leap to nightlies but this update has forced my hand. having said that though I'm not having any probs with the nightly build so I'll turn off auto updates for now.

Thanks, I can stop sweating now!

Is there any way to downgrade Alaska Revisited?

Yes. Manually grab the .zip from the Google Code page. Uninstall current version and then install via .zip file ...

Okay thanks I think i'll have to downgrade and turn updates off.

Cheers,

SD

me too, any incoming from the makers? Big Grin

EDIT: after a bit of messing, I've seen the skin version is 2.8.2 which requires a nightly build from at least 21 february 2011, so I guess standard dharma users are out of luck? This shouldn't really be happening... why not fork it? Dharma users are majority, and we are out? Or I am completely wrong?

I've also tried setting a custom image, but it won't display either

LAST EDIT: http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=733975&postcount=1721 here you have the solution... thanks hitcher.

You might find you allready have the Zip check addons\packages as it saves tehm here when installed.
Also no need to uninstall the new one just rename it then you can run both.

My own personal repo was always for the the 'cutting edge' versions; if you want stable then stick to the official repo versions.

The official only has alaska and alaska revisited mod. I was using alaska revisited. Or are the latter two the same?

When can we expect to see Alaska Revisited (Official Final) in the XBMC repo.

I like using your personal repo because my skin of choice is Alaska Revisited.
