Fed up of putting together builds and then the components not being available when I try to buy them! So might do it bit by bit for now.
If the price is right, go for it. HD6450 should be able to playback everything your throw at it! Smile

are there any key differences for xbmc with the following -

HD Radeon 5450
HD Radeon 6450

For XBMC, both cards should have very similar performance. But HD6450 has the latest HDMI 1.4 port, which might be easier for 3D playback!

HD5450
HDMI 1.3 handles HALF Side-by-Side 3D (960x1080p on both frames)

HD6450
HDMI 1.4a handles FULL Side-by-Side 3D + FULL Top/Bottom 3D (1920x1080p on both frames)

End of story.

So if I don't care about 3d does the 6450 matter?

- eskro - 2012-01-24

nope, but,
you can find HD6450's for pretty much the same price as HD5450's so,
i'd still go for the HD6450.
just to keep stuff current too.

Here are your choices-

1. HD6450- $36 after rebate

2. HD5450- $19 after rebate

If you are not interesting in 3D, HD5450 is a great choice and you'll save $17!

i am comparing 3 HD6450 cards, and this maybe extremely dumb question, but are these all the same except for clock speed and company?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007709%20600083901%20600144171&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&CompareItemList=48%7C14-150-567%5E14-150-567-TS%2C14-102-933%5E14-102-933-TS%2C14-121-439%5E14-121-439-TS

i think i will go for the SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6450 100322L Video Card its $35 and looks to be the smallest card.

As far as performance, it should be the same. It's just different brands. Somebody might say this/that brand is better than that brand.... If you stick with a well known brand, you should be fine! Smile

So do you keep your movies on the SSD? Or the HDD?

If you have money to buy several big internal SSD, keeping it in internal SSD is the best. For most of us that cannot afford big internal SSD, we keep it in the cheaper internal HDD and USB HDD...

- hcabrita - 2012-01-25

Bear in mind that the SSD storage is about 20 times more expensive than standard 3.5"HDD storage.

Here, we can get a 246GB ssd for around 330€, and a 2000GB HDD for 130€...
just do the maths.

Mainly, one should use the SSD for the operative system (windows, linux, etc.), and then standard HDD's for storage (maybe a raid there, for some data safety).
