Just how many people actually watch it on TV?

Even more ridiculous is broadcasting cars speeding around in a circle on radio! I'd rather listen to a broadcast of paint drying.
If it was compulsory viewing you'd have a point.

I think is has an audience of 512 million +
It's not compulsory viewing.
Viewing figures are expected to rise dramatically this year due to the American races. Figures are expected/forecast to double which will make it one of the highest viewing sports events on tv.
Do you feel so passionately toward all shows on the beeb that you don't like/watch?
The F1 radio coverage is on an online on "sports extra" that only becomes active during certain sports events, so you won't ever come across it unless you actively tune into at that precise moment.
You do realise the beeb has to try and please everyone who pays a fee, not just you Smile

If you want to watch more eastenders, bargain hunt, holby city etc that's fine, but Were not complaining about them spending extra cash to make episodes of those shows and they are part my licence fee, I would never dare watch such drivel... But I pay for it.

Also, the beeb play a lot of football, golf, hockey, snooker etc which I also don't care for, howver I understand they have to try to suit all viewers tastes. They even broadcast the Super Bowl which I believe has only had a few thousand views? Laugh

Also it's worth noting that on a Sunday night, watching top gear cars whiz zing round a track is usually the days highest rated show. Seems many in the uk enjoy cars/racing etc, plus last years uk ratings were the highest ever seen for F1 so it shouldn't be completely abolished. Plus F1 started here in the UK 60 years ago, it's part of our national heratige, we should be proud at wht we have achieved and created. This sport benefits production cars too, if you drive a car, it will have some kind of technology in it that came from f1 development, that's almost a certainty.

Also, It's not just about cars racing around the track, it's about the story, the rivalrys between teams and drivers, watching Lewis get humped by Jensen, watching Lewis crash into massa every week proving he's a total flange, watching teams fumble and try to understand the genius that is Adrien Neweys cars design and crying foul.

Watching some of the most incredible high speed manoeuvres I've ever been blessed to witness... watching seb be pushed out onto the grass as he tries to ovettake, watching the car begin to loose it at apx 200mph but still managing to keep it stable and complete the incredible overtake... Watching webber doing the most insane overtake I've seen in years Shocked these guys risk their lives every time they get behind the whell, it's literally outstanding watching them pull off these incredible manoeuvres.

Crashes, cars flying through the air doing 360 turns as they take flight and watching team mates come together as they battle to be team leader.... Watching button pressure seb into broadsiding his car off the track to allow Jensen to come from LAST place up to FIRST place in the WET Shocked

Its an incredible event that has no violence, no bad lanauge, no racist motives/slurs, no hatred for other teams, no resent toward other winners... I love seeing others win even though I support Jenson ad McLaren, I still have lots of love for Paul Diresta, Webber, Schuey, The Caterham Team, Seb is just an incredibly dignified character and winner... It's full of true gentleman. A sheer delight to watch.

Unlike football it's a real family event full of dare devil drama and excitement that has had me hooked since I was 6... You should give it a another try... That said, I understand your views, and you are most certainly entitled to your opinion, and i fully appreciate that you dont like F1, not everyone likes the sme things ... Thats the great thing about TV, there is a selection for all. But we too are entitled to our opinion and we love it and wish it had styled FTA Smile but what are you doing in an f1 thread if you truly hate it so much?

I can't get sky, nor can I get virgin (location) so as usual I'm left with nothing or a foreign feed. I don't want to do it, but I have no choice Sad

Anyway, you should be pleased 50% of F1 has gone from the beeb, isn't that a positive thing, judging by your posts information. You should be happy. Maybe a dedicated F1 channel (FTA) or red button coverage or another FTA channel would be better for F1 and I agree with you on that point. I just don't agree withit being hidden behind. Pay wall.

Quote:I just don't agree withit being hidden behind. Pay wall.

It's a pay wall because it's ALL about the money!

Almost all the so-called quality sport broadcasts are just about money - the tennis & golf circuses are classic examples of this commoditisation of sport. How many times have the same participants performed the same match over and over again?

I object to publically-owned organisations handing over squillions to outfits like Ecclestone's.

Popularity ratings don't equate with quality or cultural relevance.

I also object to public broadcasts of men/women slugging each other, bulls being slaughtered, etc. no matter how popular they are in the ratings.

ps: I can't stand the soaps either!

formula 1 2012 - paulsk2 - 2012-02-22

how will the xbmc community be watching all the formula one races live this year ?

- hoobie7 - 2012-02-22

Live isn't really an option for me.
But I'll torrent the shit out of 'em after!
Gotta have my 1080i!

edit: JuanFlaco are you still planning on going to the Austin GP?
I was reading that hotel rates have gone way up.

Rates for many hotels skyrocket on F1 weekend

Does anyone have any new 2012 fanart or folder images? I'm trying to get ready for Australia.

- GForce1015 - 2012-03-09

Well here are 2012 driver names and thumbs you can use in NFO files. Thanks to Juanflaco for the basic coding.

I love the ones from this site, but they are only 2011!

RE: [WIP] Formula 1 Content - Sveen - 2012-03-15

I've set up the first 5 races using artwork from formula1.com as episode thumbs. Though, I only have one season poster, as PJTierny hasn't many any more for this year. I've also made a banner and a poster using 2012 cars, Haven't tested those, since i don't use a view with them.

Made a .rar file of what I got so far: it's about 7 mb

The .mp4 files are just dummies, so it shows up in the library

Thanks GForce!

I exchanged a few emails with PJ Tierney and wow, the guy could not be cooler. He seemed very supportive of our use of his artwork and he does indeed have 2012 posters. The format has changed slightly, in that he's no longer doing the additional text around the edges of the poster, instead focusing more on the artwork. This is great news for us, because it will guarantee a nice looking thumbnail no matter how your skin/view crops the image.

As you can see below the older posters were cut off slightly around the edge in poster view (of course YMMV), but the new Australia poster looks terrific...

Image

I have a few questions out for him and should have more info and a package available for download soon. Of course it goes without saying, if you're a fan of his work you should check out his online store and consider supporting him by ordering a print. They're very reasonably priced and would be a nice addition to any F1 fan's home theater. I'm personally leaning toward picking up the Monaco poster Big Grin

Hoobie - still hoping to go to Austin but will just have to see how finances work out. I think I could avoid hotel costs but no idea how much event tickets will be.

[WIP] Formula 1 Content - lrusak - 2012-03-15

What are your guys's folder structure looking like for scanning F1 as a TV show?

Tv shows
------> F1
---------------> 2011
---------------> 2012
---------------------------> R1_QF.avi
---------------------------> R1_QF.NFO
---------------------------> R1_GP.avi
---------------------------> R1_GP.NFO

Or what is the best way to do it?

RE: [WIP] Formula 1 Content - Sveen - 2012-03-15

Tv shows
------> F1 2011
------> F1 2012
---------------> Australia
---------------------------> F1 2012 - S01E01 - Australia Practice 1

Like this, find it much more organized than the way you described. Might delete my 2011 season as it takes up a lot of hard drive space, and I'm probably never going to watch it again.

Thanks, I wanted to do it this way I was just unsure if it was possible with the tv folder structure.

For those interested, you can download a zip archive of 2012 PJ Tierney posters here. He kindly provided 20 event thumbs and the 2012 all-events poster.
One other file to share, here are track maps from VivaF1.com for those of you who like to see the layout in the thumbnail, might be of some use...
