Good news! Thanks to Lord_Pall on IRC, he found a '16bit output' option buried in the ATV2 that seems to fix AC3/DTS Passthrough for the nightly build on 4.3.2.

So all you 4.3.x folks, upgrade to 4.3.2.

In the AppleTV menu, just go to Settings>Audio & Video>Audio Output and change it from "Auto" to "16 bit" (thx DN38416)

In addition I'm happy to report success with AudioEngine builds on ATV2 with AC3/DTS on 4.2.1! OSX is still a little buggy.
Remember if you want to join the AE testing team (and have ac3/dts capabilities) please join #xbmc-ae!

keith Wrote:Since you didn't elaborate at all like I asked, I had to go thru your previous posts and find your problem, which seems like your trying to play some random url which doesnt work, peering thru your logs:
22:15:06 T:804691968 M:119189504 DEBUG: CDVDVideoCodecFFmpeg::Open() Unable to find codec 0
22:15:06 T:804691968 M:119189504 DEBUG: FactoryCodec - Video: - Failed
22:15:06 T:804691968 M:119189504 ERROR: Unsupported video codec
22:15:06 T:804691968 M:119189504 WARNING: OpenVideoStream - Unsupported stream 1. Stream disabled.

So does this url work in XBMC on osx/lin/win? I doubt it since XBMC on ATV2 doesn't know what it is.

Please try to follow the guidelines I posted you previously when posting up an issue. It helps me to be able to help you.

Url does not work in XBMC on win.
URL works in VLC to win.

Information from the VLC:
Stream 0
Type: Audio
Codec: MPEG Audio layer 1/2/3 (mpga)
Channels: Stereo
Sample rate: 48000 Hz
Bitrate: 192 kb/s

Stream 1
Type: Video
Codec: MPEG-1/2 Video (mpgv)
Resolution: 720x576
Frame rate: 50

What else can I help to solve this problem?

keith Wrote:Please don't post more than 3 or 4 lines to the forum thread, just paste the entire log in pastebin and then link it.

But I don't know if anyone fixed pictures, it was broken for awhile. Try copying some pics locally to the ATV2 using SCP/SFTP and see if you can view them that way.

OK. I will try this. But what if it works?

BTW, to all people that put there (unchanged) log files on pastebin. Thank you for the passwords of your smb-shares Big Grin.

Yeah. Enjoy them. Next time you're actually on their LAN.....

Add code so it works in XBMC would be nice. Smile

You can also open up a trouble ticket in trac.

If you do that, as the link I sent you earlier states, be sure to include mediainfo, a sample file of the media file in question and the pastebin link to logs.

I'm on 4.2.1 and have no problems with dts, other than when downmixing, is there any benefit to upgrading to 4.3.2 at the moment?

- JRML970 - 2011-05-13

AppleTV 2G
iOS 4.2.1 (4.1.1)
Git: 20110507-4b18017 Compilied May 7 2011
apt-get for official build. ssh for nightly build

CrashReporter http://pastie.org/1898219
Media Info http://pastie.org/1898273 & http://pastie.org/1898272

XBMC crashes back to the Apple menu after a few minutes of playback. Tried two videos both ended up with the same result. Experienced this problem with earlier nightly builds and with different media.

Do you have ATV Flash/firecore Media Player installed?

Maybe, but I wouldn't.

install updatebegone from nitotv ... maybe the aplletv update function for 4.2.2 makes it crash...

Second this.

There's a guide here for editing your hosts file: stop-appletv-detecting-updates/

You'll just need to alter i.p. addresses and what not to suit your situation.

Nice, AC3 & DTS working again here with 4.3.2 and latest nightly.

Video is still choppy in WEB-DL rips but my other files seem fine, maybe some issues with the way it's encoded, doesn't matter if post-processing is on or off. Example file info if it helps at all:

Stuttering when playing VIDEO_TS files - twomuchpizza - 2011-05-15

jacaru Wrote:I tried the last osx nightly of May1st and dvd playfine.
About the small dvd copied locally to ATV2, it shows the same issue. So we can forget about network&protocol issues.

I am having this problem too. Have you made progress? One would think network would be the culprit (because uncompressed files are bandwidth hogs but not CPU).

- donut4000 - 2011-05-15

I don't often post (I'm more a reader, not a writer here), but I'd like to mention that all works better than before regarding the iOS upgrade and latest nightly. I'm on 4.3.3 (4.2.2, build 2203). I'm now able to play 90% rather than 75% of all my local media, and IceFilms now manages all the HD/720p stuff. I admit that getting my jailbreaking going was a pain in the arse (iTunes to blame there i think..), but once the IPSW was on, a further hour, XBMC and all the supporting skins, add ons etc were in place, all previous functionality was restored.
i'd like to say a big and hearty thank you to Keith, Davilla and the host of other of other developers too numerous to mention for this fantastic software, and making a recent Apple TV owner very happy indeed. This is just the starting months of what looks to be quite a year for ATV/XBMC in this house.
Cheers guys : )

Thanks 4.2.2 is working fine with xmbc latest unofficial build - luchazo - 2011-05-15

Thanks Davilla.

I jb'ked my new ATV2 with 4.2.2, and used the wiki steps to put XBMC on it.(official build)
As expected, the installation worked, but I was not able to play mkvs or even to run some of the Video add-ons (like pelisalacarta).

Then, I did the following steps guided by Renze, to add the latest un-official build that works)
wget http://hadm.net/~keith/xbmc_atv2/latest_atv2.deb
dpkg -i latest_atv2.deb
apt-get install org.xbmc.xbmc-seatbeltunlock
apt-get -f install

And therefore, by getting the latest deb file, and installing seatbelunlock, now atv2 4.2.2 is running fine (mkvs and addons working fine!)

Thanks for the nightly fixes Davilla.

Regards
Luchazo
