Indeed very unstable scanning media.
To be honest I don't like where the new Confluence is going (my personal taste).
The previous layout was way better imho.

Crash report of a crash during scanning media files on an SMB NAS.

Device: Apple TV2
OS version: 4.2.1 (2100) (which is 4.3 if I am correct)
XBMC version: XBMC, Platform: Mac OS X (11.0.0 AppleTV2,1). Built on Jun 12 2011 (Git:20110612-a45dfd9)
Crash report: http://pastebin.com/kiYnjmPa
Syslog: http://pastebin.com/uLmmbVwP

I am back at the previous build; better theme and stable Smile

Mediocre?? I challenge you to make a better one.

It's personal taste, besides if you don't like it there is a vertical home menu one that you can install manually

FIY, scan cashes are a known issue. It's just one problem of the latest scraper abstraction merge.

I think you missed my point; the previous one was very good. Mentioning that the direction the skin is going is not liked by everybody.
Not trying to piss of people just mentioning that my personal taste is that the previous one is better (seen others with same preference for the old one).

I know; but is you read the post he asked for logs, which I provide here.
"If anyone else has this issue, please report it here! Crashreporter and syslog is probably the most important. "

Since I have an SMB share attached via Ethernet to my aTV 2 I assume scanning content will crash on this build?

Aside from this, any major new features in this latest build? Thanks!

crashing is hardly a feature Smile

lol Nice! Smile

Since there seems to be little change, I'll hold off until the next build.

Last min thought: would turning off scanning for new content on my locally attached SMB share upon running XBMC rectify crashing? If so, is there not an option to select "Files" and manually select movies or does this still require scanning the disk and thus crashing?

Yup, I am not a dev and I wasn't aware scanning crashing is a known issue. I will update that post accordingly. Any user that says TEAM XBMC Developer instantly overrides the comments of everyone else. Wink

Tons of stuff changed, there's been many commits in the last month between builds. Just I'm unsure how much changed the user will notice.

Correct, turn off scanning for new content on bootup.
Use File and browse manually. No crashing will happen. Files does not scan the disk. Only Library does.

Excellent! I'll give your new build a shot tonight. I'll turn off scanning, etc before updating and backup the XBMC folder to my Mac Pro (I noticed that the TC's HDD would "sleep" causing scanning to report errors, hitting "yes" to continue worked but I won't miss it).

Thanks mate, loving and appreciating your hard work.

Thought I'd clarify something real quick.
I'm helping with two similar but different projects:

1) XBMC-IOS Unofficial nightlies. These are public builds released here (when I feel like it) for all of us who like to live on bleeding edge. My goal is to make somewhat stable builds that majority of users can use if so inclined. Here we're looking for problems and the place to talk/report on this is #xbmc-ios on freenode.

2) XBMC-AE private builds. These are done by gimli and I try to help the administrative side. Gimli is handling the CoreAudio work for AudioEngine, so I wanted to help mature that side so OSX/IOS will be solid for sure. My hope is others use the irc channel as well (the linux, win32, etc testers) but so far it's just the CoreAudio folks. The builds will be on the dropbox. We want *entire* logs of media, if it worked or not. You *must* join the irc channel #xbmc-ae to get access to dropbox.

So, in short, report problems to where you get the builds.
If you got the build here, report problems with it here.
If you got the build on dropbox, report problems there.
Don't confuse these two!

Thanks for playing!

please forgive me if its a silly question::

Is it possible to connect an external hard drive via the atv2 usb port so that XBMC can play movies from this hardrive, ?

If not...is xbmc team planning to enable this feature..?

Many Thanks.

No, the micro-USB connection doesn't allow it. The only method (at this time) is connecting via ethernet using SMB, etc. for locally attached stores.
