hi ronie, you were very helpful when I wanted to change the font, color and make the main menu completely transparent and I enjoyed my basic tinkering. Last week the skin got updated automatically and all my fancy modifications are gone.
Is there a way to lock them in next time or do I have to reapply them every time?

nope, xbmc will delete the entire skin folder before unzipping the new version.

As mentioned elsewhere in the forum, changing the version number in
skin.transparency > addon.xml to something like 9.11.5
will prevent any updates for a long while.
Of course, a good backup of your mods never hurts
