I had to reinstall my machine and i came upon the same problem.
With 2.6.39-3 and patched Catalyst 11.6

had the same problem a few days ago. some update from xorg-edgers broke vaapi.
luckly I had a backup of my system.
for now, I have this ppa disabled and no updates...

Yeah, I launch avatar in 1080p 24fps ...but a picture of two shows the first frame of film. I do not know if I'm clear.
.xinitrc - devil103 - 2011-07-06 17:56
So I've got the XBMC installation almost the way I want it.
I'll hold off on the X-updates for now but there's one last thing... (isn't there always?)
I'm using an .xinitrc script to autostart XBMC after login of my xbmc user but this script also runs when logging into the machine using ssh.
Is there a way to disable this behaviour and not run .xinitrc when logging in remotely?

One command brought everything back to normal:
sudo ppa-purge ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa

Ah, hmm before i gave up again i tryed removing all xorg-server/mesa packages and reinstall them and it lived again.
Then now i'm stuck with another problem, playing a video with vaapi enabled doesn't crash xbmc anymore but seems it doesn't use any accelleration.
But i'l try purge ppa first.
- All worked with the ppa-purge, thx lewy :}
only now i get tearing in video and i can't get the spdif audio to work.
When i enable tearing in amdcccle and vsynch it is almost smooth in 60hz but i get a weerd ghost screens in 24p
Unmuted spdif with alsamixer and stored with alsactl, Settings->Audio-> Optical. and tryed almost all settings and combinations but still Failed to initialize audio.

Try these settings in the system>audio settings in XBMC.
Audo output : Analog
Audo output device: HD-Audio Generic HDMI (ALSA)
works great for me.

Hi, I have an problem with this board:
Sapphire pure fusion mini E-350
I've followed the Robotica instructions in this thread and XBMC works with a PC monitor but, if I use a TV ( Panasonic ) something strange happen: I can see the bios image and GRUB but when xbmc seems to boot the tv don't display anything, black screen.
If I turn off the HTPC pressing the power button i can see the halting sequence; i've noted that the tv during the bios/GRUB sequence go 60 to 50 Hz at "random".
I use Ubuntu 11.04 x64 minimal now, but I had the same problem with the 10.04; also followed the minimal installation in the wiki and the first one in this post, but the result are the same.
I think that it is something related to the Xorg.conf, but I don't know what to do; several attempt of the " aticonfig --initial -f " haven't do "nothing".
I'll post the logs you want, tell me what to do, I'm going to be crazy.
PS: Sorry for bad eng, not my language.
