I am still confused.
Is there a way to get the comskip info from NextPVR to work in Kodi as it used to? Or must I always use NextPVR?

Kodi never askes for the comskip info when playing via the NextPVR addon (since it uses http streams). If you want to get kodi to play NextPVR recordings with comskip, then you need to play the recordings outside of the NextPVR addon. ie, like using the Videos main menu item, and just point Kodi at a directory that contains the recording. (this way Kodi is just playing files, rather than streaming over http)

How do the other PVR backends do it? I had a MythTV backend that the commercial skipping worked correctly. Unfortunately it didn't like sleeping with my tuner cards (and getting FM working was a nightmare) so I went back to NextPVR (used to use it years ago) and was disappointed to find out that EDL support doesn't work. Apart from that I love it. A breeze to install and configure.
