Linux fresh kodi install won't start: Linux Mint 19.1 updated today
#1
Kodi (17?) was working fine. I believe it was the team xbmc PPA stable. I updated my linux mint 19.1 including kodi which showed updates available via the update manager. It triggered removal of kodi/bin so perhaps not the team xbmca ppa afterall? and rebooted. Then kodi wouldn't work. So I did a full removal including purge and deleted the .kodi entirely.I reinstalled kodi via
Quote:sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install kodi
But it still won't run.
You can get my system info etc via this crashlog:
crashlog

There is a kodi.log but I can't get into kodi to set debug
kodi.log
Nothing in either log jumps out at me. Last line in the kodi log is setting graphics.  I assume it is system specific vs kodi version. What version should I try and please point me to how to install that?
BTW, I have also tried to install via the linux mint 19.1 sofware manager and get the same no-start issue.

Most likely a bug in mesa-vdpau-drivers on linux mint - nothing we can do about.

First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Really? Those updates are Ubuntu. You're telling me that team xbmc kodi won't keep up with Ubuntu? Really?

So I didn't realize that I had also upgraded to to kodi 18. I can now confirm that Kodi 18 is not compatible with ubuntu 18.04 latest stable update or Linux Mint 19.1 latest update. Kodi 17.6 is. I didn't have the appropriate system snaps to fine tune an analysis. Never had to do this before, but downgrading to kodi 17.6 is working fine. Kind of good to clean install once in a while anyway.

So is team XBMC going to abandon debian/ubuntu/mint? You realize this issue will crop up soon in chrome etc as well
