Kodi 19.1 (64 Bit) crashes on Windows 10 at splash screen after (?) Windows Update
#1
Kodi 19.1 was running stable on my machine (Windows 10 Pro 21H1) since July 2021.

Two days ago, I stopped it, let Windows 10 install the latest upgrades (*NO* Driver updates!), and tried to restart Kodi after the last reboot.

At first it reached the home screen and crashed (stacktrace, crashlog written).
Then I switched on debug logging, now it crashes immediately from the splash screen.

Debug log is in  https://paste.kodi.tv/ujufakezos.kodi

No new add-ons installed, no manual changes to Kodi by myself since weeks.

Windows Eventviewer shows an "Application Error" upon each crash, e.g.

Code and offset are always the same.

Thanks for any hint on how to tackle this.

Although I don't think it actually has to do with the Windows patches installed, I still document them here:

Crash may be related to WS-Discovery issue already fixed in Matrix nightly builds (and next v19.2).

Try install build from here: https://mirrors.kodi.tv/nightlies/windows/win64/Matrix/ to discard this.

Or alternatively you may try to unplug from network any device different from computers, NAS storage or printers (e.g. IP cameras). Even those connected via WiFi. Some of these network devices "trigger" crash on Kodi.

Thanks for the suggestion, I was able to reproduce it:

  • Unplugged from network => Kodi starts without issue
  • Replugged to network => Crash after Splash Screen

Weird why this is happening now - I surely read about this before in the Forum (

https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=362788
https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/issues/19778

) before but did not relate it to my issues as there are

  • a) no recently added devices on the network
  • b) the discussion was in May 2021 and
  • c) my system ran stable during July/August/September with 19.1 ;-)

Will go for the nightly and hopefully see in the output which device is causing this in my case.

(Hope I can go from 19.1 Nightly to official 19.2 later than without hassle ...)

Update:

Now planned to switch to Nightly as mentioned above, but retried starting Kodi before (to reproduce the error before making any changes).
What shall I say, the error is gone again, Kodi 19.1 starts again, no crashes with network plugged in.
And did not make any changes I'm aware of.

Weird ...
