Any way to connect REvo to my old TV?
#1
So I am thinking of getting a Revo with my tax rebate (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6883103235) however the TV I have in my bedroom is kind of old, and the fiancee won't let me get a new one.

I have my main htpc downstairs which is connected to my tv via hdmi, which obviously handles both sound and video.

My TV upstairs has component and svideo inputs, but no vga or hdmi. Is there anyway that would be able to hook up the Revo to this TV, or will I have to swap out my mini 19" LCD, which I really don't want to have to do, since the bed is pretty far away from where the TV would be.

Atom/Ion nettops with component or s-video arent too common, there is a one here with component but dont know where its available. Myka website

A fall back option would be to buy a second hand Apple TV fit it with the Crystal HD card and use that as your XBMC player as the ATV has built in component output.

Thanks for the links.

That is going to be a little bit out of my price range, but I appreciate the help.

I was able to find a converter cable (http://www.monoprice.com/products/produc...t=2&style=) but I don't know if the ION can output component video signals (Y, Pr, Pb) so that my TV can understand them.

Anyone know if the ION can output those signals via VGA?

::EDIT:: I found a link stating that it doesn't output the correct signals. http://www.pauljroberts.com/acer-revo-3610-unboxed

You'll need to find out if the component input on your TV supports 480p and not just 480i. If it'll do 480p you can buy a VGA to Component box that'll convert the signal for you (I don't believe that cable will work... the boxes are around $100).

If it only does 480i, I doubt you'll have much luck getting it working.

I'm personally thinking about picking up one of these:

vga to composite

Not the best quality, but not too bad for 30 bucks

If you do pick that up, let me know how it works out.

Have you had any experiences with those in the past?

I am hesitant to buy one for 60 dollars only to find out that it won't work on my TV.

I am seriously considering that though, so thanks for the links.

So I just had an idea that I wasn't sure if it would work.

I am going to be buying a new receiver for my living room set-up soon as part of a refresh and I am planning on buying an audio receiver that has HDMI inputs (seeing as my current one doesn't have them.

If I were to take the new receiver with the HDMI inputs, and put it in my bedroom, would I be able to connect the revo to the receiver via HDMI and then connect my TV to the receiver via component?

Has anyone ever tried that?

That's another option I was thinking about, but I can't find an AV receiver which makes DVI to Component pass through Sad

Not really possible. A few receivers will downconvert HDMI signals to component that do not carry the security flag, but none can do anything with a flagged signal. I guess that really depends on whether xbmc outputs a flag? I don't know enough about the intricacies of xbmc to know that answer. I'm not even entirely sure if most ripping processes would remove the flag or not.

Bottom line, if xbmc never outputs a flagged signal (or perhaps if the video card never outputs a flagged signal for material generated within xbmc), then it might be possible if you find one of the few receivers that can do that. But probably not your best option, and probably not an option at all.

Will do, I ordered it on the 3rd (but DX always takes a while to ship).

I bought it mainly to hook it up to some of the older TVs in the house should the need arise, but my revo will be mainly used via hdmi+analog audio.
