I went through these steps in this thread to try and update my default image (Sam's) of Ubuntu 8.04 with 28256 with CrystalHD. I wanted to update to a more recent xbmc build as well as update the crystal drivers to r115. However, when following the above steps, I 've run into some kind of issue during the build...

First, I added
Code:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/nvidia-vdpau/ppa/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/nvidia-vdpau/ppa/ubuntu hardy main
to my sources list in /etc/apt/sources.list.d.

Then I did a
Code:
sudo apt-get install xbmc
This did gave me:
Code:

Ign http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Translation-en_US

Get:27 http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/multiverse Sources [1114B]
Get:28 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/universe Sources [49.1kB]
and then I get an error:
Code:
Reading package lists... Error!
E: Problem parsing dependency Depends
E: Error occurred while processing kdegraphics-kde4 (NewVersion1)
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_hardy_universe_binary-i386_Packages
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
And now any time I try to use apt-get at all, I keep getting the same error...

I tried update apt-get, and it ends iwth the same error "while processing kdegraphics-kde4".

Any idea how I can get past this?

Can this update command be done for pin87a's minimal install or just sam's full install?

Should work just fine. I used pin87a's image, although I've admittedly made a number of changes to it.

I'm having the same issue. I'm just looking at linux text. What do I need to do to get this to auto start?

kcarney Wrote:I had some slight differences

file I edited was /etc/apt/sources.list because /etc/apt/sources.list.d/xbmc.org.list did not exist.

Adding the key failed
Code:
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys CEC06767

Code:
sudo apt-get update

This did not work;
Code:
sudo apt-get upgrade

But this did;
Code:
sudo apt-get remove xbmc

Code:
sudo apt-get purge xbmc

Code:
sudo apt-get autoremove

and finally
Code:
sudo apt-get install xbmc

Works great!

i always get this:

sudo apt-get install xbmc

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package xbmc is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package xbmc has no installation candidate

what does this mean?

Well after trying every method under the sun over the course of the last few months, I can confirm that with pin87a's image the following works, no other steps required :

Code:
sudo apt-get remove xbmc-data
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xbmc xbmc-live
sudo reboot

Tell you what though, I re-imaged from scratch first because I'm pretty sure all that fumbling around in the dark had probably done something irreversible.
