XBMC crashes on scan of movie folder
#1
Hello,

I jail broke my ATV2 a few days back and installed the latest version of XBMC on it. It comes up nicely, seems to play every video, looks good. But whenever I try to update my movie library it crashes XMBC. This is reproducible, no matter if I do full scan on directory or updating an individual file. I reinstalled all twice already and no other add-ins are installed.

Any help would be appreciated.
Andreas

Have you installed the youtube add-in?

For some reason this causes problems with the library.

Yes, seems to come with the standard install. I now tried to deinstall it but without success. Get the message that this add-on is used by TheMovieDB scraper and can not go away.

So I disabled it. But XBMC keeps crashing.

I also changed the scraper from TheMovieDb to something else. Still XBMC crashes upon any attempt to update the movie library.

Slightly further ahead in my analysis.

Apparently it's related to the UPnP linked NAS I am using. Once I removed that and linked via SMB it's working now.

So this fixed my immediate problem but still doesn't explain why it's crashing.

You know that you can't use a upnp source for library content? upnp is only good for browsing and playing. I don't know why it even tries to scrape them.

No I didn't. Wasn't aware about this limitation at all. But instead of simply crashing a nice notification that this action isn't supported would be slightly better :-)

Thx a lot for this clarification.

Do you know what prevents UPnP from working as a lib content provider?

upnp is based on dynamic urls ... they change each time you query a movie ... nothing which can be stored in the lib.

For the notification ... no we devs find it much better to just let it crash.
