Xbox 360 Media Remote
#1
Hi all,

I bought one of the new Xbox 360 Media Remote's assuming it'd work with the current receiver I have. It's one of the cheap MCE type remotes, a crappy remote and a reciever. It doesn't seem to register button presses with my new remote though.

I'm just wondering what sort of reciever I'd need to buy to have this work? I'm not entirely sure whether it's an RF or IR technology. Also, is this 'plug and play' or will some LIRC hacking be required?

Anyone advice from someone with experience in this and XBMCBuntu would be appreciated.

Cheers!

I'm pretty sure you could yet this working well with a FLIRC reciever.

http://flirc.tv/

FLIRC supports pretty much any IR Remote and has profiles for mapping the controls to XBMC as well as custom Keyboard Commands. You should even be able to get the big XBOX button to launch XBMC by mapping the xbmc executable to a custom keyboard shorcut.

EDIT: Just saw you mentioned you were using XBMCBuntu... i'm not sure just quite how well Flirc is supported on linux... also i've heard of some ongoing problems when using Microsoft style MCE/RC6 remotes.
