Bitstream by passthrough on Philips 2014 Android TV
#1
I am trying to get Kodi set up properly on my Pus8809/12. Only setback is that passthrough doesn't work. I have my soundbar connected via ARC to my soundbar which is a Yamaha YSP2200. I have tried both DTS and AC3 but i only get white noise as if the format is not supported.

I know the TV supports bitstreaming through ARC as it works perfectly with the native network streaming.

My aim with xbmc is to get 24p playback.

Has anyone ever got these issues working on a philips 2014 Android TV?

I am facing to a similar problem on Philips 55pus7909
- SPDIF (optical toslink) connection to Logitech Z906
- neither AC3 nor DTS passthrough works in Kodi
- everytime I switch it on, TV volume goes to 60 /max/ and produces cracking and rumbling noise both from TV and external speakers
- works perfectly with the native network streaming (which however works only with DLNA - no CIFS/SMB, NFS... and cannot show external subtitles *.srt... etc.)

The same "passthrough" problems with Philips 55PFS8109/12, additionaly:
1. Cannot change GUI resolution, it is automatically set as 1280x720,
2. The picture quality is worse than in the TV player (because point 1?), used the same 1080p movie to check,
3. TV is connected to my local network by cable (100 Mbit/s), and still there are problems with fluency (buffering..),
4. Network info showing some strange IPs and MAC - not real.

Is there any "dedicated" XBMC for Philips Android TV?
I am looking for a solution to play movies from my local network (shared resources, CIFS/SMB, NFS...).
The best solution would be to add "network" option to the native TV player to be able to play movies from my local network (by browsing folders/files).

PS. Native TV Player do not have any options/settings to the subtitle (size, colour, position), is it the same in your TV?

In reply to pewu:
ad 1 - the same problem but mine is 1080p (the screen of 55PUS7909 is 4K)
ad 2 - hard to say in my case
ad 3 - with CIFS, NFS sometimes happens, however using DLNA I have no problem (e.g. Serviio has even support for external subtitles and is multiplatform - http://www.serviio.org/)
ad 4 - the same experience KODI shows nonsense

- according to my research there is no fork of KODI (XBMC) dedicated to Philips Android TV
- the best solution to play movies from local network with subtitles for me is Serviio and subtitles embedded in MKV (for me good and fast way to do that is MKVtoolnix - https://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoo...loads.html)
- the built-in media player in my TV handles MKV embedded subtitles but except of code page there are no further settings
- adding CIFS (net speaking about NFS or others) to the built-in media player would be great but I think many people including me have asked Philips support and they are a bit blind and deaf to users/customers needs

One more thing... Whoever would like to have some reasonable solution, please don't hesitate to ask for it at:

Maybe one day...

Thank you.
I will try to post some kind of "request" in this topic Smile

4. Network info showing some strange IPs and MAC - not real
It seems that this is related to the "Miracast" services (additional virtual network interface?), which is shown in the KODI.

1. Cannot change GUI resolution, it is automatically set as 1280x720,
2. The picture quality is worse than in the TV player (because point 1?), used the same 1080p movie to check,

After some deeper investigation I can say that the whole menu in 55PFS8109/12 is visible in 720p, which means that if you will open KODI or MX player, or other, then it used 720p resolution as default. If you will play the movie with 1080p, then it will be automatically downscaled to 720p, and the quality will be poor... :/
Why it is 720p if the screen resolution is 1080p? Im really disappointed...

Adding to all this the lack of any possibility of enlarging or change colour of subtitles (USB), seems that I will avoid any Philips TVs in the near future...

There was a note (http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/s...#post93878) that a fork of kodi called SPMC can solve those issues. I have tried the version on Google play - 13.4.0 (2014/12/14) and haven't noticed any change. Does anybody have a different experience? Thanks for sharing...
