[LINUX] DVD playback stopped working
#1
DVD playback recently stopped working for me. I have previously been affected by Bug #8026 and was able to workaround the problem by opening /media/TITLE as a Video source; this would initiate playback and take me to the DVD menu. Since last week, this no longer works. When I insert a disc I get the message "Mounted removable harddrive: /media/TITLE"; browsing to /media/TITLE only shows the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories and the contents thereof; there is no file I can open to cause playback to commence (though VIDEO_TS.IFO will show me the FBI warning, thank God ;-).

Playback in VLC works fine.

I have no idea what changed to cause this problem. I haven't upgraded XBMC since June and AFAIK no relevant packages have been updated either. Any ideas?

Here is a log of the insertion of a DVD.

Have to retract the above, partially. DVD playback has changed for the worse. But opening the VIDEO_TS.IFO file does initiate playback. (I made the mistake of trying to skip past the FBI warning, which had the effect of skipping the DVD menu too (?!). If I patiently wait for the warnings to pass, the DVD menu loads as normal.)

To summarize:

Previous behavior: inserting a DVD would bring up a message saying something like "A DVD has been inserted. What would you like to do?" Opening /media/TITLE in the Video browser would immediately initiate DVD playback. (NOTE: This behavior is not ideal. It was the status quo with respect to Bug #8026.

Current behavior: inserting a DVD brings up the message "Mounted removable harddrive". Opening /media/TITLE/VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.IFO in the Video browser initiates DVD playback.

Cryptic, but correct. I've never really understood what "Stack" was supposed to do. I must have accidentally toggled it at some point.

The skipping of menu sounds like a recent change.

If toggling "Stack" in the Video menu options doesn't fix it, then it's not the same issue. See the above-linked bug if you're having more general problems with DVDs.

i just tried enabling stack and they still won't play, I'll make a separate post since I have a slightly different issue. I put a CD in and it mounts as a removable hard drive, I can see the files in Xbmc, and when I try to play them nothing happens.
