which card for GFX with HDMI? Nvidia GT210 or ATI4350?
#1
I just purchased a Nvidia 8400gs but the sounds card was not listed when using aplay -l, so that card is no good. I read somewhere this is bug in ubuntu with that card and sound through HDMI.

So which card is better? ATI 4350 or Nvidia GT210 for out of the box HDMI and accelerated 1080p GFX.

or if something else is good for around £35 then list it here. P.S. I don't want any cards with fans no matter how quiet and it has to be low profile and supplied with the low profile plate too.

I don't get the Fan hate. The ambient noise in the room is louder than mine. I've literally powered off my entire house and tried to listen for the fan and still don't hear it. You could also get a cheap fanned GPU and replace it with a massive heat sink. It may end up cheaper.

And since you mention aplay and ubuntu, stick with Nvidia for linux.

as I thought.

Anyone know for sure if a GT210 card will work with sound via HDMI?

I have a GT220 and it does. You need to configure some things. (And I need to update the Wiki with the newer instructions).
