The engineer said on 23 September:
Quote: I tried your test APK with my android M , dts/dd+/dd passthrough with raw data is
OK. Maybe your firmware is old, have some issue. I am working on DTS-HD

Let's just ask them. I think they ship a "Board Support Package (BSP)" to every company that sells their chips and there might be "multiple" Android 6 AML firmware out there. We can ask - I just want to see what this users has on his box.

It's up already.

Hello fritsch,

I have installed this version. How different should be from the previous nightly? I have tested and found no difference so far.

Too nice :-)

so, basically your vendor ships a version where a) the old AML passthrough has already been whiped but b) the new RAW PT has not yet been implemented properly.

Please return your box, it's not ready for prime time. FW is broken and you won't get PT working with that FW version.

You get a John Rambo from me:

Edit: Sorry, was the wrong Rambo

That crossed my mind but since you told husseinb to try latest nightly and the title is about not working DTS it seemed a bit stupid and that's why I asked.

+ 1 Billion % agree with this !

Same old story from sellers that have no clue.
I just simply tell people to return Android devices these days, especially with unsupported AML boxes.

It's in fact not so easy. Today we learned that several vendors ship Android 6 on AML without any QA at all ... - the only good news: this time, it's so beyond repair, that we don't even have to think about fixing it.

I am not sure whether the blame is on the vendors. It looks like Amlogic is actually the culprit.

Here are debug logs from two different Amlogic S905X boxes running plain Android 6 (Mini M8S II) and Android TV 6 (Xiaomi Mi). They both behave exactly the same way. The only passthrough that works is Dolby Digital. DTS passthrough sometimes works on the Mi box. Dolby Digital Plus passthrough does work on the Xiaomi Mi from Netflix/HBO Go/Google Play Movies

Xiaomi Mi:
Kodi 17 Nightly 10/14

Kodi 17 Test Build ae03fc7 - DTS

Kodi 17 Test Build ae03fc7 - Dolby Digital

Mini M8S II:
Kodi 17 Nightly 10/14 - DTS

Kodi 17 Test Build ae03fc7 - DTS

Imo the blame is on amlogic to release untested firmware to start with. Then the vendors for not even checking if the thing they sell even works.

I received beta firmware from wetek for the Hub and I told them DTS/DTS-HD was indeed broken. Since I was in contact with Minix/amlogic as well I also told them the same.
So both put their release on hold and amlogic went to work to fix it which they now confirmed they have done.
Still waiting on new firmware to test again.

That's why I started this: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=289735 but average joe that only wants to watch dolby 5.1 porn from some streaming site and buying the cheapest box on the universe with the biggest features will never ever learn.

That is Exactly the problem with ALL these "ship and forget" companies. They simply do not do any testing and don't care once they have customers money. This has now gotten so bad I'm going to put up another warning for users NOT to buy AML devices, packaging Android 6.0 if they want basic DTS passthrough working.

I am totally sure it can. There is nothing special needed to output DTS. The problem is the half-baked firmware.
