THANK YOU!!!!! This fixed my problem too. I don't know why this is still an issue after 2 years, or at least why I haven't been able to find any other fix (although, admittedly, I didn't try installing flex). Last time I built xbmc, I just disabled Goom.
Now onto my next compilation error...
