Hi community,
I did read a lot in this forum but I am still lost. I just can't nail it down which road I should go. :-(
My current setup:
Now my QNAP reaches his limits (storage & function wise) and I like to replace it with a new device. To keep up the current setup a new NAS would be enough but I like to enhance my setup. What I additional like to do is:
Point 1 & 2 requires a "real" Server and not a NAS and point 3 & 4 needs a XBMC running 24/7 as there is no (as far I know) server / client setup. The idea is to combine all 4 points in one device. (and sell the Zotac) The other solution to run both devices 24/7 is no option.
The living and working room are next to each other so a 3 meter HDMI cable would be all to get the data to the A/V Receiver. The main question is:
Can XBMC be run on a server environment 24/7?
If yes then a couple of question pop into my mind which I can't answer myself 100%.
Sorry for the very long post.

- Prebuild or DIY server? (prefer Prebuild like HP Microserver)
- What do I see on the TV when I turn on my A/V Receiver? Hopefully only XBMC opened.
- Possible solution: XBMC running in a virtual machine?
- Possible solution: XBMC running in a virtual machine?
- What operation system?
- WHS is not expensive but has no Email function.
- Windows Server 2008 R2 has no Email function but the OS itself I could get from work.
- Windows SBS 2011 is too expensive.
- Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS - Missing mobile phone feature.
- Zentyal Linux small business server (Includes Zarafa)
- WHS is not expensive but has no Email function.
- What Email program?
- MS Exchange is to expensive. Also too resource heavy for a Microserver in my opinion.
- Zarafa Community Edition
