Will this do the trick?

This will be my first HTPC build and I want to run XBMC Aeon Nox on the OpenElec OS on it.
So its pure mediacenter.

I have a 2.6Ghz P4 CPU here at home so I would like to use that one.

So it would something like this:

S478 mobo with pci-e
P4 2.6Ghz
HD 6450
1 or 2 GB RAM

Will this be enough to handle 1080p playback and perhaps full bluray rips?

AMD HD6450 might be very tough to setup for OpenElec. You might have easier time with Nvidia GT520, and it should be able to playback everything in your list...

I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

P4 and a HD6450... did they have pci-express back then?
i´d suggest to replace the cpu with something newer. less noise, less power consumption. p4s are awful in that aspect.
doesn´t need to be an i5/i7, a core 2 duo or perhaps an i3 would be more than enough for your needs.
and my vote goes to an nvidia GT520/420 too. absolutely enough for everything.

So an E6300 with a GT 520/420 would be a lot better?

A GT 520 costs quite a lot more and I'll have to buy a new cpu too

Isnt there another OS that I can use so I'll be able to use a 6450?
Or is the audio output the only problem with a 6450?

Yeah, but I dont want windows 7. Its XBMC only so I'm going to use OpenElec, and they say that hd 6450 has problems with openelec

That is why I suggested GT520 over HD6450 for OpenElec....

It's very similar price as HD6450.....Galaxy 52GGS4HX2HXZ GeForce GT 520 or ASUS GT520-1GD3-CSM GeForce GT 520....

Sadly I'm from Europe, so I can't order anything from newegg.

I can get a passive 6450 in Belgium for 29euro, but the cheapest passive GT 520 costs 47 euro

Wel, I found a new one second handed (used for testing if a pc still worked) and I'll be able to buy it for 20-25euro.

How does the GT 520 handle 1080p playback or even full bluray rips?

It should be able to playback 1080P file and full blu-ray rip.....here is the full spec on it- GeForce GT 520 (OEM).

So an E6300 + GT 520 is enough to use OpenElec, use XBMC with every Skin fluidly, and play 1080P

It should be more than enough for OpenElec...if it is Intel Pentium E6300 / 2.8 GHz dual-core processor, it should handle most skins with ease and Nvidia GT520 should playback 1080P with ease too....
