I hate unRAID. Why not try FlexRAID, FreeNAS, or even WHS 2011 with stablebit drivepool?

Yes, seemed fine. Didn't run it all night, though.

Pictures update!
I've also updated the original post with new figures, expenses, and HDD outlines.

My SSD cache drive is temporarily up in the top bay. I have one extra port on my RAID card to add one more HDD. I will probably do some shuffling around and add my Seagate 3TB drive as parity since I haven't set one yet.

In other news, I've set up a couple of shares and transferred 1.2 TB to one of those shares using Midnight Commander. Went pretty fast without the parity drive set (6-ish hours)! I've also installed SAB/SB/CP as well as Plex Media Server. Can't wait to fully test these out!

Thanks for all your continued help. It's been a hardware roller coaster!

Boy I envy your cable management. I can never seem to make it that neat!

Probably because he's already purchased an unRAID license. Also how would have FlexRAID, FreeNAS or WHS worked any better on a bad CPU? Many people have had positive experiences with unRAID, myself included.

I hate unRAID.

Don't know why you choose to spread your uneducated thoughts on this but I will gladly point out the "uneducated" part whenever needed

Since when is an OPINION an uneducated thought? I can't say I hate something? Is free speech not a right on these boards?

I simply found FlexRAID to be a far superior product and have heard so much good about FreeNAS and I personally had great experience with WHS and Stablebit Drivepool. I just felt safer going the hardware NAS route.

I didn't read the whole thread, my bad.

How's everything running? I'm thinking of building something similar. Would you recommend all the same parts?

Thanks

I'm curious to know too, it's a nice box he built and set up. I'm a strong proponent of hardware NAS with it's own OS, but that's just my opinion.
