Sorry one other question - it says in the sticky that the a6 and a8 don't support XBMC Live. Is this the same for XBMCbuntu? If so, why is that? I might return the A6 and opt for the i3 instead.

Linux don't play nice with AMD GPU....you'll need Nvidia GPU for that....

I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

I've always used Linux by default, because I had the AspireRevo 1600, and nothing else ran smooth. I guess I'll just switch to Windows. Are there any drawbacks? Sorry, maybe this isn't the right place...

I uses Windows 7 on AMD E-350, Intel E7200, Intel i3, AMD Athlon II X4 610e, Intel i5.....and there is no drawback so far......it can playback blu-ray in full 1080P with DTS-HD/TrueHD, XBMC, 7MCE and streaming Netflix HD, Vudu HD, etc. Can Linux do it?

CPU/GPU = AMD A6 3500 = £48.03
HSF - SCYTHE Kozuti rt. = £29.99
MOBO = ASROCK A75M-ITX = £50.42
Memory = Kingston KHX1600C9D3X2K2/4GX = £19.92
Case + PSU = CIT MTX003B CASE- ITX- 300W = £32.00
Case Fan = Xilence Red Wing 80mm Quiet Fan = £5.01

Total Cost = £185.28

Well Eskro my hat goes off to you built my Htpc last night took me all of 20mins to build then for a newbie was very impressed how easy it was, installed xbmc live and open elec ended up with windows 7 and and latest Eden build.. And really really happy now took me about an hour of fiddling and getting all the drivers sorted couldnt download the amd display driver initially. Sorted out tearing during playback....
Using aeon nox and runs very very smoothly probably will get an Ssd at a later date but still fast menu navigation and used scynthe kozuti which i some how squeesed in although not supposedly designed for FM 1 for me stock amd fan a little to loud for me. Only problem noise wise is the PSU that comes with the case might look into buying a different one at a later date although it's not that noticeable during playback. And for all those unsure of the A6 3500 so far handled every 1080p mkv I've thrown at it would highly reccomend. On debugging maximum cou load/usage during playback the maximum usage is around 20% average of around 15%

Many many thanks guys

Eskro and blurry thanks for all your help one very very happy newbie

Eskro, again, I apologize for being so naive in this subject...

I already ordered the 3600. Is there any reason I should consider canceling and ordering the 3500, other than price?

Also, I ordered 2x4gb memory. Is this unnecessary/overload?

Thanks once more.

No need to cancel, A6-3600 is better than A6-3500......A6-3600 has slight faster core than A6-3500!

If the price is only a couple bucks higher, 2x4GB of RAM is fine....

8GB of ram is indeed overkill for HTPC use,
but if price was right, dont cancel ,,,

well, depends on how much u paid for the A6 3600 ,,,
i know the A6 3500 is $80...
