Got a few of these and they have been working flawlessly... Same price, $109 after code...

$10 cheaper if you can get away with a Samsung EcoGreen F4 2TB

Glad to hear the Seagates are working flawless! Big Grin I ordered one last week, and it's arriving today. I couldn't hold out any longer. Now I can try the cache drive thing with a 1TB drive i have in my Unraid server now, and install the usenet apps on it. My A6-Pack build is getting rather hot while doing lots of unpacking and post-processing. I want to covert it to be just a HTPC, instaed of a download and process machine. Confused

Good stuff..... yes the A6 can multi task..... but I believe the point of it is just to be a dedicated machine.

I use XBMC everyday to listen to music before I go to work.....

XBMC is wonderful....

Kirky99

Thinking of buying the SAMSUNG EcoGreen F4 or the ones you have....
But aint there issues with the firmware that you have to update before?
Or was that another model.....?

I think the Samsung EcoGreen has some SMART firmware type issues. I don't know for sure, I remember reading something about the Samsung F4 on the FlexRAID site. Just going by that.

I don't think you want to push the A6 in a very small case too hard. If you want to do multi-task (watching blu-ray while ripping, transcoding, editing, etc in the background), you might need the A8-3870K or i3-2105 with bigger case, PSU, fan, etc for that......

The A6 with a small case and PSU should be serving for HTPC only.......
>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

My thoughts exactly. Which is why I'm going to use a cache drive with Unraid, and let it handle my cpu intensive tasks.

So, while trying to download a bunch of stuff that was missing pieces, the CPU was working really hard the other night (fetching articles, repairing, unpacking, post-processing, etc.). It was maxed out for like 45 minutes straight at 100% load on all three cores. Temps went past 80 (which is the max, according to coretemp), and I got the BSOD. I had to adjust my fan speed in bios to max, which doesn't bother me, because it's in a coat closet where I can't hear it anyway. Even though I'm going to start running the usenet stuff on my server, the heat issue still bothers me. My next project is to put a inlet into the closet, and an exhaust fan into the ceiling. Also, maybe I should get an external power supply and pull out the stock one to get more air flow in the case. Any ideas? Huh

Weird thing is, when I ran SAB, SB, and CP on my Revo 3610, I never had a problem with it shutting down like that due to overheating. I just couldn't stand how sluggish it was while surfing the internet. Plus, I LOVE Aeon MQ3, which was basically un-bearable with the Revo it was so slow. Other than that, there isn't that huge of a difference between the Revo and the A6-Pack. Weird, huh? Confused

maddog808 again what cooler you using?

Well if noise don't bother you.... then it's all good.

And you running the 65w brick?

or?

Mine keeps shutting down (hard shut off) like its unplugged from the wall..... if you got a BSOD that means its more software related or heat... what was the code on the BSOD?

I think my mobo is bad or the power supply...

Stock CPU cooler, and the SilenX EFX-12-15 Effizio Silent 120mm Case Fan. But my problem is that the coat closet doesn't have any ventilation, and it's crowded:
  • Surge protector
  • Yamaha surround receiver
  • HTPC
  • HDHomerun
  • 4 port network switch
  • wireless access point
  • RF remote base station

So , I really need to get some air moving through there. Especially with the HTPC sitting right next to the Yamaha receiver, which also gets pretty warm.

I didn't pay attention to the BSOD error code, but it was obviously the heat. The TJ Max for that A6-3500 is 80, and mine was past that. Blush

Hey, I read where you said that with the regular HDD, you weren't getting the hard shut off. I've noticed since my SSD died, my A6-Pack is running smoother with the 250GB WD Caviar Blue in its place. Although, the boot time is like 90 seconds LOL. Other than the quick boot, I never really saw any advantage to having a SSD. In fact, when OCZ replaces it, I think I'll use it as a OS/boot drive for my office PC, and leave the HDD in my HTPC. I could probably benefit more from it in the office PC, where we actually open up more apps and stuff. Tongue
