How to Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs
[ 2931.953642] [fglrx] ASIC hang happened

there you go, read back this thread for info. in short: fglrx issue or _very hard_ to track down xbmc problem

if you find a way to reliably reproduce it, please let us know how
jea its reproducable. play music, turn of tv ...
Hi,

@fritsch and @FernetMenta, Thks for your answer, this bug is very boring and in my case hard to reproduce, sometimes it happens all day after a fews hours running idle, and sometimes the system seems to be more stable and thos bug does not occur any more ^^ (hits occurs generally during the night when the TV is off)

I've upgraded to 12.6 Catalyst the system seems stable for now , my "dirty" workaround is to implement a simple shell script watchdog that will reboot the system (this is anyway the lony solution) when ASIC bug happens...(so watching for this pattern into kern.log) dirty but works.

I'll try to get more traces next time it happens.

@Jan0sh, i'll try the same as you and will tell if the ASIC bug occurs

today no ASIC while playing music with display of, xbmc did crash anyway (but was kill- and restartable via killall ):

xbmc.log
http://paste.ubuntu.com/1112465/

I'll try to reproduce the situation described above and update this post with crashlogs.

Edit 1: it happened again. no crashlog nor useful informations on dmesg
@Jan0sh:
This Crashlog shows a bug that is already fixed in master. No Asic hang.
Fix is here: https://github.com/FernetMenta/xbmc/comm...7d72c07ed8

Edit: wsnipex already built packages with this fix, they are in the testing repository.

sorry.... false post... please delete
@guilmxm

Did you install 12.6 driver on xbmcfreak edition? If so, can you please give the exact commands you used to update the driver.

@wsnipex
I noticed that the fglrx that comes with xbmcfreak edition (latest v2 in this case) are dependent on xbmc and xbmc-bin packages, so do I remove them all first (xbmc + fglrx packages) and then install 12.6 and reinstall the xbmc packages. I have built a nice system for myself (http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=136778) running xbmcfreak and I am thankful for your awesome work.

No i'm running Xubuntu 12.04, i used ATI installator to build package, backed up /etc/ati/control, installed generated packages (which replaced old fglrx packages previously generated the same way with ati 12.4) then restored /etc/ati/control previously backed up (because my chipset HD6310 is seen as non supported hardware by 12.6)
Also had to remove /etc/ati/amdpcsdb (because ati control panel was still showing 12.4 as installed) and re-applied config with aticonfig
This way worked fine for me.

sudo ln -s libshairport.so.1.0.0 libshairport.so.0

And deactivate / activate airplay in XBMC (in reboot or XBMC relaunch should hade done the job) and it works.

Thank you, same here did reinstall of my server and no working airplay.
apt-get install libshairport1 and your symlink works fine. Laugh
I have the frode release running on ubuntu 12.04
I also notice the lowest xmbc load i've ever had, xbmc is idle-ing at 2-4% cpuload.
Very nice, thanks for the good work

only thing now is fixeing is what i see in powertop, if needed, i dont know.

I found that hdmi driver contains a bug consuming power, but the fix didnt work for me.

Thanks for the link, gonna give this a try. This post should be put as sticky on Linux support forum and/or added in first post of this thread. I am quite sure there are many who keep on asking this specific question.

Cool, I am also facing this problem on my notebook with older AMD HD graphic chip and the link/instructions provided are very much what I have been searching on the net. Hope that my latest AMD Fusion (A6 with HD 6530D) will not have this "not supported" issue. Thanks.a

@EazyVG:
I have updated the howto above to include instructions for legacy driver. wsnipex has added it to the front page.

Btw. If someone has a real good idea on how we could make this thread more readable. I would be thankful.

Thanks, many will find it usefull and keep the thread claener Smile I find that from 12.6 they have somehow messed up the driver installations, before it, at least for past 3+ years for me (prior to that it could become nightmare), it used to be simple. Thanks again for the howto.

I created a new XBMCbuntu livecd based on the images from a few days ago. If you're interested you might give this a try:

http://www.xbmcfreak.nl/en/xbmcbuntu-12-...y-release/
@ernham: you probably should switch to the stable ppa xbmc-xvba
it has the same features as testing, but only gets verified packages. Testing can always contain major bugs, as its build directly from master without prior tests.

We still appreciate advanced users on testing helping us track down bugs, but for the average guys it might break stuff.
