Frodo & Gotham Linux Builds for Amlogic M3 Devices
dhead, I tried compiling from your source using the gotham branch, all seems to go well but then I get prompted for username and password for github and I cant get an output image. I sent you a pm about it as well, if you could help that would be much appreciated, I'd like to help with these builds in any way I can as well. Thanks

Hey Everyone,

Firstly, thank you very much to dhead for his efforts on this.

I have a Vodoke Playstaq device that I got free with my broadband subscription. It's one of these (http://en.ocworkbench.com/tech/m1-mibox-...ox-review/) and I can't imagine it being very popular. After playing around with XBMC for Android, I decided to look at how it would work under XBMC for linux under M3, I found this thread and after some research I found that some of the devices listed under the Mygica A11 buld have similar hardware to the Playstaq. A few weeks ago I decide to flash it with the Mygica A11 build (using the built in upgrade option) and I now have it running quite solidly for around 2 weeks.

Things I have noticed:

1) CPU usage was at 100% from boot. After much trial and error, the culprit was the menu. If I disabled all the unnecessary items I didn't need it only uses up what looks like 20-40% vs 100% before. I have max 5 menu items and it works for me.
2) I am running the Aeon Nox Minimalistic theme. It reports a varied 20-40 fps. It runs a bit faster than the default confluence theme that comes with the build.
3) Browsing Series and Movies can be quite sluggish (but workable) when you have a large collection and have the cover wall enabled with fanart as background.
4) Wireless works fine but after extended use it was unable to play remotely, although I was able to get to my network np. Simple restart fixes this. No issues with Wifi passwords.
5) 1080p output works 100%
6) 1080p playback is good - I have managed to play with no delay, 8 / 10 different type of files that I tried. 2 had delay, but I am not 100% sure why they are so different. I can run them through G-Spot and find out why.

I have 3 questions and I am hoping somebody can help me here:

a) I am unsure how to upgrade to the next build, if there is ever a new one? I could speak to my ISP and see if they can give me a recovery image so that I can restore Android and upgrade to Linux again, but I would prefer not to. Any suggestions here?
b) I would like to add Mplayer as an external player for the files that I am unable to play / play with A/V lag using DVDPlayer, but I am not sure how to do this on Linux through SSH (I have seen some guides online but they are for Raspberry Pi or from much earlier builds of XBMC). Any suggestions?
c) The default remote that comes with the device has some issues with the buttons under this build (back is esc, home is picture add-ons). Is there a simple way to assign them to different options?

Anyway, thanks again to dhead and thanks to all the rest of the help from this thread.

Here's waiting anxiously for the next release. This one is working pretty good, axcept the trouble with audio with low khz. Any fix?

I didn't have time lately for pushing out updated builds as I wasn't quite well for a while.
I'm a bit drowning in books and exams but I'm not abandoning this thread.

Sorry to hear about you not feeling well dhead, nothing serious I hope.
I was pleased to hear that you wouldn't be abandoning the thread, as the gotham build could do with an update when you have time on your side.
I think fravel has mentioned here about an issue with sound that maybe you could take a look at, I have one that might sound trivial regarding the mouse pointer speed when using my Logitech k400, when moving the pointer it appears slightly 'laggy', could this be in the rom or is it a compatibility issue?, I'm using a gbox midnight 2.1 with the last gotham you built, the power on and off button when using the remote can also be a bit unresponsive at times, but on the whole I think you've done a great job in keeping these devices going, thanks again and I hope we can expect an update when you have time.

@Garza

Thanks, I'm much better now (but it was a loud wake up call, like life telling you to set your priorities straight).

I've been away for a few weeks from my build machine and my laptop drive crashed (darn Murphy, it wasn't backed up).
Probably next week I'll be able to access my build machine and if no major issue will arise then I'll upload a new build, but I won't have time to look into bugs.

Thanks dhead for the quick reply, that's great news about the update, and all the best with your exams.

@dhead

Glad to hear you are feeling better.

I am posting to let you know that I sold me G.Box 2.0 clone so no worries on my particular post asking for fixes.

Btw it worked great except for wifi and pass through hd audio.

Thanks for the great work done.

Glad you're back and feeling well. Hope for a new build that fixes the less than 22000khz problem. By the way, are you planning on having the latest librtmp into the build? Userdata?
Best of luck with your exams.

Hi,

I have one of these:

http://www.ebluetimes.com/en/ProductView...SortID=206
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bluetimes-3584...1c419925ba

It has an Amlogic 8726 M3 1.2 GHz CPU.

I have tried a few images:

Bluetimes M3 (M3_LINUX-BlueM3-update-20140525.zip) - does not boot.
GBOX 2.0 (M3_LINUX-GBOX_2.0-update-20140525.zip) - boots but USB does not work, so I can't do anything.
Image posted by dreamers: http://d-h.st/NeZ - the UI works but the ethernet and wifi do not

I am relatively technically savvy, so if someone can give me some pointers - e.g. how to get to a command line and dump some logs, I can do so.

Thanks for your help.

Ashley

If anyone has a little time to take a look, the dmesg output for my bluetimes m3 running M3_LINUX-GBOX_2.0-update-20140525.zip is below.

The ethernet is clearly working, but I can't use either of the remotes I have to control the UI - the remote control works fine in the image posted by dreamers (but the ethernet and wifi don't, and the forum thread for Droidtv linux xbmc is nowhere near as active as this one, so I'll stick with you guys!).

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Hi randompunter

You need this remote.conf for the Bluetimes M3 unit.

I've got a gbox m3 amlogic box and the number 4 on the remote does not work. Anyone got a quick fix?

@Rod1 thanks for that - that let me start playing around with the UI

It looks like the USB bus and devices are not working. No wifi (guessing that it must be on the USB bus) and keyboards/mice don't work. Any tips on how I can debug this?

Thanks,

Hey dhead - hope everything is good. Just wanted to check in to see if you might be working on a 13.2 final for 2.0 and 2.x M3's?

Thanks for all your work so far.
