Set the advancedsetting.
That's it. Nothing else is required. All background loaded images will then auto-generate dds files (slowly, in the background).
To get them all generated for movies, the simple way is to go to movies, then navigate one by one (as fast as you like as long as each image shows on screen) through them. Go in and watch the log and you'll see it generating 'em.
Compressed textures for FanArt - testing here with XBMC 2009-10-05 (r23431) or newer

Go in and watch the log and you'll see it generating 'em. Gotcha. So basically about 2 seconds per movie (Which is how long it takes for my lame tbn's to show up!) then leave XBMC running. Got it. Already doing that now, but was hoping for a way to tell XBMC to do them all. Perhaps a feature idea as time permits Meanwhile, I'll just set a timer to press the down arrow every 5 seconds and walk away for a half hour. Come back and I should be good to go.

You might want to update the first post.
Do you still need feedback? I added the advanced setting and let XMBC alone after running through the database. DDS files were generated automagically. Speed improvement is huge. System: Lenovo Q150 (Atom D510, ION 2), Windows 7 32bit |

This looks amazing. However, I have read through the entire thread and being a bit new to the scene I am completely lost. I currently run XBMC Live 9.11 r26018 on an acer revo with all my media files organized via media companion and stored on my Windows Home Server. If someone could lay out a pretty detailed on what I need to do to convert my files and get this up and running I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks for any help.

Sorry if this is a noob question, but it wasn't clear to me from the initial instructions. Do I have to create a advancedsettings.xml file in my userdata folder and then put those tags inside it?
I wasn't sure what file to put the tags in (i.e. does the file already exist? Do I have to create it, and if so where do I put it)? From searching the wiki a bit I came to the conclusion above, so I just wanted to see if it was correct or not. Thanks. |

Create the file. Put the tag in it. Restart XBMC.

jmarshall Wrote:Create the file. Put the tag in it. Restart XBMC. OK, thanks. Works great. Really fast, though I noticed a small degradation in quality with detailed features, like if a picture has a bunch of (small) faces in it. The compression makes them look a bit more... grainy (for lack of a better word). It's a bit different than regular JPG compression artifacts. Pictures with larger features are fine though. I'll take a slight amount of degradation any day though for the huge speed boost! Now I just wish there was a way to automate going through all my movies one at a time so the fanart will get picked up and converted

So I should expect this to work in Dharma b1 on a fresh install with that advancedsettings.xml tag put in?
