As a newcomer to XBMC there is alot to take in, after all its a highly features and customisable package. And I'm guessing like me, that alot of people who have known about XBMC for a while will now start to come on board with Atlantis and as it gets simpler and more streamlined.
For all those newcomers out here like me. Excluding the hardware you run on. Whats you ultimate XBMC setup? ie. What scripts, skins, plugins, remotes, and accesories etc should every self respecting XBMC user have in yor opinion? |

Yeah I was basically thinking anything you can add on to XBMC such as scripts and hardware such as remotes. Whats the best of the best for anyone new?

I would say:
HT setup: -XBOX with XBMC -connected to the internet and PC/NAS -XBOX Remote -Microsoft AV Pack (RGB/Component Out) -(minimum 42") Plasma/LCD/LED HDTV -5.1 surround (not true surround, cause XBOX is only stereo, but you can "split" the channels to have it connected to a 5.1 setup). Scripts/Plugins: -YouTube 3.4/Navi-X 3.0.2, to stream YouTube clips -OpenSubtitles_OSD/Sublight, to search for subs from the XBOX -Apple Trailers Lite, to watch latest movie trailers -(built in) weather info, to show weather info -xTweet, to update Twitter status, -Home Theater Experience, to show MPAA rating screen and trailers before watching movies -GoogleReader, for, duh, reading....Google... yeah, you know what I mean. -Notepad, to edit config or nfo files from the XBOX -xVideos/Tube8/VideoDevil/KeesMovies, for pr0n (tee hee )-TVShack/Justin.tv, to stream movies/TV shows/live sports without downloading -XBMC Zone Installer/SVN Repo Update/XBMC-Addons Installer/PassionInstaller, to update/download new scripts/plugins -NFL Network Highlights/NBA Videos, for sport highlights -The Real News Network/CNN/NBC Universal, for news -Comics.com, to read comics -Flickr/Picasa/widelec.org, to see pictures -Emulators, to many to mention, to play games -EuroGamerTV/GameSpot Videos/GameTrailers, for game previews -Family Guy/South Park/MythBusters, to watch these shows without downloading -GoogleEarth/LocatU, to see the earth and maps And the newest, slickest, most complete skin such as Rapier 3.0, Transparency! 2.11, xTV SAF, or Confluence. The only thing missing I would say, is a PROPER web-browser, with tab and Flash support and IM client. And ability to show latest soccer scores and highlights (does it exist already?) I was thinking to install my wireless keyboard+mouse to the XBOX, but without a browser and IM client, it would be useless. What else? |

"not true surround, cause XBOX is only stereo"
With the right adapter the Xbox can output Suround sound, 5.1 and DTS. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox There will never be a web browser... but you can use the Football Script for the latest footie results.... |

My HTPC setups looks like this:
Basic Hard/Software: - Acer Aspire Revo - Windows 7 - Latest XBMC with stripped down Confluence Skin (Only Videos, Pictures, Music and Settings) - Autostart - 42" Plasma, 5.1 Surrond (both throurh HDMI) Additional Hardware: - External 500GB USB disk (for storage) - Sconi v2 IR receiver - XBox 360 HD remote - Ipod Touch + App for remote controlling (e.g. to select music without turning on the TV) Additional Software: - Sconi Center for IR configuration - Connectify 1.0 for routing (connectify.me) - Syncing.net for syncing with my second home (250 miles away over Intert) - Media Player Classic as external HD player for utilization of GPU assisted decoding So my HTPC box is a 24/7 box which provides routing capabilities through WLAN N and is live synced to my second home through the Internet. Works like a charm, but still some little tuning necessary to increase the WAF ;-) Last edited by Nogga; 2010-01-06 at 17:02. |

But the AV Pack is (very) hard to find here in Indonesia (we're basically a PlayStation country). I just managed to get me a Component cable, which set me back about $15 used after weeks of searching. (dang!) Sheeesh, how am I gonna ever get DTS... Could you point me to the Football Script, good sir? I need it very much! btw, why will there never be a web browser? how bout IM client? or facebook client? we have xtweet right? didn't xbmc has this text based Lynk or something? I tried it once, but it was so ugly I had to close the script. Last edited by elzafir; 2010-01-06 at 17:27. |
