1080p 3D on Apple TV2 trouble
#1
I have no trouble playing 1080p mkv in any form of audio. Sometimes it locks up when you try to resume but works again when you start from beginning or take it off library mode?

But it seems a recent problem that i cant figure out is why 1080p 3d movies just freeze it and take it back to the Apple TV homescreen. They are bigger files but that cant be the main reason. I searched the board and have come across the topic but not any type of solution. Would the computer be the problem...i am hard wired in, and have no trouble with 95 percent of 1080p and 0 problems with 720. Thanks for any help and sorry if its been answered but i spent a week looking through google and here and didnt see any solutions.

Because the Apple TV doesn`t support 3D Blu Ray. 3D Blu Ray uses the MVC codec which requires a more powerful GPU to do the decoding than what the ATV2 has.

As far as audio is concerned, you can`t bitstream DTS-HD nor Dolby TrueHD, you only get the lossy "core" DTS & Dolby Digital, again, hardware limitation

Thanks for the info...so there is no way to watch 3d through apple tv. So is that to say there is a way to do it? I have had it work on a few movies and I believe they were 1080. I guess the next thing to try would be one of those notebook setups

Also before i give up on the apple tv2 all together for 3d.....is it possible to do it with a faster computer. Mine is at least 5 years old and not all that powerful. Would there be a way to do it through the ethernet to apple tv port or does it have to be right throught the hdmi to the tv because its pretty far to my tv.....thanks again if anyone can help. Like i said before some movies work if i switch the 2 images right away to merge and if i do it through file mode not library. Avatar 3d which is 18 gigs, seems to not work more than a minute in any situation though.

I see lots of words here and yet I cannot figure out the question. Smile

I guess the question is...why is some 1080p 3D working and others not. They are all SBS. They only work in file mode, none work in library mode. Avatar gets in a few minutes then resets my ATV2. Also when i try the AEON Nox skin it usually resets My ATV as well. I was wondering if this was a pc issue or an XBMC issue.

Seeing as it can only output 720p there's no need to get 1080p material.

As long as you don't provide xbmc.log or any samples, Only you will know.

Nevermind, i found a way better way to play 3d video for anybody with a usb port on there tv. just plug the external hard drive right into the tv. Its crystal clear and not one single stutter, buffer or glitch. Its primative though in its setup, just the same as it would be on your computer so i wouldnt use it for anything but 3d. Seems like too much trouble on the apple tv2 for 3d...thanks to everyone who answered though....i'll keep looking for any thing in the future that will allow you to use xbmc for 3d on the apple tv though because its the best thing i've ever seen for movies

i'm lost! how're you able to connect a usb hard drive with 3d movie directly to htdtv 3d and play it directly on htdv 3d? is there a pc or media player built in your hdtv 3d?

i'm not sure why you're wasting time trying to play 3d on a player that is not spec for 3d.

im curious how you do this? as Tvs are not designed to read the NAS i know they can read some anyway can read a USB stick but even then some are not designed for that.
