Hi, newbie to XBMC, i'm wondering when watching movies or listening to music, is there a sliding bar that you can do jump to a certain part of the movie? thx.

I believe it's been added to the nightly builds but not Dharma. For that you can either use the arrows to do small and large jumps in either direction or simply type in the time you want to jump to.

hmmm.. thats very uncomfortable. we watch a lot of shows and always skip the beginning, and are in the habit of jumping everywhere. why does it lack such a basic thing?

You can jump with a keyboard or remote.

It didn't used to have this function simply because XBMC is a media centre and not a media player and as such it's designed for use primarily with a remote. But, like I said, it's available in the nightlies.
