Apple has just pushed out a software update to the Apple TV and it’s version 4.2.2 build number 8F305.
The update is likely bug fix related and we’ll update with more details when they are available.

Here’s the official firmware direct download link: AppleTV2,1_4.3_8F305_Restore.ipsw.

Jailbreakers might want to hold off. Via MuscleNerd:

Quote: Apple just pushed out a lone AppleTV2G update…stay away from that if you’re currently untethered on ATV2G

looks like anyone without the patches fix for preventing updates will get system crashing again..

Feel free to try it. Would be interesting if the ac3/dts passthrough static noise issue is fixed (evtl. by selecting the new 16bit audio setting?)

wonder if sn0wbreeze has problems with sound in xbmc, as earlier releases of snowbreeze cause on the previous build?

Hi,

I try everything that everybody suggested to do to unlock and then install the xbmc on atv2 on 4.2.1(2100) and same problem. I cannot access the atv2 with teh ip address. I can ping the ip address of the atv2 only. cannot use telnet or ssh or puffy.

I use laptop with xp pro sp2.

I try since 2 months almost.

Please help me. SVP email me. I can pay you in worse case if that can accelarate the process to make my xbmc working.

Probably just an error with the update. Do a full restore again with the custom firmware.

You did set the unit in pawned DFU-mode before restore in iTunes right?
Also, do you have the latest iTunes installed?

Yep, all of that. I did a full restore three times now, all from DFU mode. After the final step (apt-get install org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2) if get the following error and then the freeze

Tried for several hours to update to 4.2.2 - same issue as above once jailbroken - ATV2 boots to the apple logo then blank screen. I can still telnet remotely but no video.

Attempted to reload firmware and re-jailbreak 2 more times with the exact same outcome using sn0breeze (I can NEVER get seas0npass to work).

Finally just rolled back to 4.1, jailbroke with greenpois0n and everything is working now.

I am able to use seas0npass and reverted back to 4.2.1 otherwise I will be in trouble when the kids get home and find XBMC broken. Seas0npass is tricky indeed, I think it helps to plug the power back in shortly after the USB. But you may be better of with 4.1 anyway until the audio issue is fixed for 4.2.1.
