I was sitting and watching "Planet Earth" with narrator David Attenborough. (episode 9, The Shallow Seas) The .avi I have is very good quality (720p i think), and I thought to myself, this would make a really great screensaver just by it self.

So I did a little searching, but haven't found anything yet.

I know you can play a picture slide show as a screen saver, so my question is:

Can a screensaver be made to just play a video file? With maybe and option to start with or without audio?

I also miss my old "fireplace" screen saver...i forget which old dash used to have that...

Aquarium and fire screensavers would be awesome, if http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/2247 was done we'd be able to do anything like that, just source our own video.

Would love to see this happen. Since this thread started with xbox discussion does anyone know of any progress in this area?

Now screensavers are addons, so that should be doable.
