I have my media stored on a RAID 6 array powered by a 3ware 9650se card.
Every few weeks it will drop a drive. I'm almost certain this is due to the drives not being RAID drives, and the error recovery timeout is not set.
All of the drives are 750GB Samsung Spinpoint F1 drives, model no. hd753lj .
All of them have firmware revision 1AA01107.
I have seen rumors firmwares as high as 1AA01118, with comments saying that version 1AA01113 fixes some un-named RAID problem, but nothing concrete.
When I run smartmontools (I'm on Windows XP Pro), I get the following:
Does anyone know how to enable CCTL (Samsung's name for TLER) on these drives?
Can the firmware even be upgraded on these drives? Hacked?? Surely it can... I have no idea where to get a new version, though, as it doesn't seem to be available from Samsung - at least not that I can find.
If anyone knows, I'd be eternally grateful.
Is there an online resource for things like this? One single site for helping people with their storage array issues to allow cheap drives to support TLER?
