Iplayer for ATV2 Installed but not working
#1
Hello SBMCer;s. Not sure if this is the right place for an iplayer post but here goes, I have looked and googled and cant find any specific place ....
I have managed to install iplayer directly by moving the zip file into the mobile drive and installing it from xbmc. it seems to work perfectly, all the listings come up, even the thumbnails and descriptions - I get loading percentages but when it comes to streaming, the screen goes blank .
One clue is that my iphone (which I uses a remote) loses the connection and says there is nothing connected for about a second, and then starts again, as the ATV2 screen goes back to the main menu.

I did read on a forum somewhere that there is a setting that needs to be changed to enable streaming .... but I cant find it anywhere.

Any ideas?!

Thank you from a newbie.

Matt

I've had problems in the past. I'd recommend using a repository for the installation of the plugin: it allows for later automatic upgrades, so you'll always have the latest version without hunting about.
Here is a link to Hitcher's repo, that has the iPlayer add-on:

http://code.google.com/p/xbmc-repo-hitch...loads/list

Just install this repo, then the iPlayer video add-on, and see how you get on.

Hope this helps Smile

hi there ... thank you again. I installed Hitcher's, uninstalled the version of iplayer i had, and re-installed it from hitchers ..... and, erm, same problem. Everything looking great, descriptions, up to dates shows and even great thumbnails, loading progress and percentages .... and then it just goes blank and returns to the main Apple TV menu ... (lowtide). So frustrating!

Any thoughts?

Many thanks.

that smells like an xbmc crash and both xbmc.log and crashreporter log might have more info. syslog too.

It was a while ago I had tried this also on atv2, running stable dharma version, also installed with a zip (not repo). I remember at the time the vods worked but none of the live channels worked ie. Mine didn't crash xbmc, it simply didn't load, no error window. I am in oz and tried this with a uk proxy.

This thread should not have been moved to the Off-topic forum. Perhaps the mod who moved this though iPlayer was different software on the ATV2? To be clear, this thread is talking about the XBMC add-on called iPlayer.

Thanks for the support. Hey Davilla - I forced the crash again and delved into crashreporter, I think this is the pertinent part of the report ... does it shed any light on the problem?

I have, what appears to be, the exact same problem as I have the exact behaviour when I try and play from iPlayer. I have also uninstalled the version I had and reinstalled from the Repo listed above.

Any ideas?

Hi, are you saying the iPlayer plugin is now working with iOS 4.3? I have installed the latest deb files and still it crashes on clicking a program.

Any further thoughts?

Thanks.
This fixed a few things for me - iPlayer, muzu.tv, and TVCatchup, are all now working on ATV2 (and 4.3). I did need to go into System settings, and enable 4:3 playback to be 16:9.
Icefilms was working fine without the fix, and is still working fine now.
For info, to others trying to set up ATV2, I've also got Livestreams, and mFlow working on ATV2. (mFlow needs visualisation setting to none).

Hi, I can't wait to try this out. I have been soooo frustrated by the problems with iPlayer.

Just a quick question though, I guess I need to (a) follow the 'pre-install instructions for ATV', and then (b) the 'instructions for installing/updating this build'. With (b) step 5, is this the url 'http://xbmc.hadm.net/latest_atv2.deb'? And with (b) step 6 and 7, how do I insert the file that I download from that url?

Thanks

Anyone been able to get the 3200 kbps HD streams working??

iPlayer maintainer suggested it's an XBMC problem, not the plugin itself (see below)

Asked around a few times, hoping someone can help!

Sample of file that doesn't work is here:

Pastebin of the media info for the 720P files is here:

I'm using 27 July nightly, HD streams work fine on old official builds (from Feb), but something broke so I've had no luck getting them working on any builds since.
this is something you need to report to xbmc. the plugin just passes a url to play to xbmc. if it starts playing but performance is bad etc, and especially if it used to work, the problem points to something in xbmc.

note the nightly builds warning "Only for the brave. You should expect breakage when running these builds.".
