Hi I'm running Mint 10 on a Athlon II X2 with 4 gigs of ram and a 1 gig GeForce 9500GT. XBMC is running in twin view on my 37in screen and my desktop is a 22in.
What I'm noticing is XBMC is using about 23% CPU and compiz (normal settings, nothing fancy) between 19-25% on idle. As soon as i close XBMC, compiz drops to respectable 2-5%
this is the process that spikes compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp
is this normal ? If not how can I fix it? Currently my solution is to switch to metacity with compositing off. But I'm a sucker for transparencies and I get a lot of tearing with meta's compositing and none with compiz (with the right settings).
Update
In my situation running from my desktop "compiz --replace --only-current-screen &" has lowered my idle usage CPU considerably
