This may sound really silly, But how does one edit/play with textures.xtb files? I would like to have a go myself

You can't extract textures.xbt !
You can download uncompressed textures ( see my first post )

Are the source files available for the buttons by any chance? It would be much easier, I'm adding an outer glow to the buttons so they can resemble the tron style a bit more.

Not a good idea to change the font color, it will affect the rest of the skin. The only color that can be changed is the default orange.

Any idea whats causing this in currently watching?

Can't say it ... you have script.watchlist installed ? You're on eden11 or nightly build ?
Had several changes and fixes ... a new release 2.1.0 is coming out this weekend, so you can wait, install the svn version from xbmc-passion-repo or try out another skin (like aeon.nox) and see if the watchlist works there.

Have tried all you suggested, looks like the script is broken.
Will just have to wait.

yes. it works fine.
