Well it still suffers from stuttering video after laptop been in sleep mode while XBMC was active but now it's easier to restart XBMC.

Thanks

That fix solved it for me aswell thanks!
the latest driver can be found here
click the link and wait a sec and the newest drivers will appear.

This worked for me as well! Thanks so much for the tip -- I tried everything else in several other threads (linked here and here, among others), but after completely uninstalling XBMC, updating to the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver (10.8.0.1003 released 11/11/2011), restarting, and then reinstalling XBMC (I used Eden Beta 3) the problem seems to be fixed.

For reference, I'm using a Toshiba Portege laptop: Intel i5-2410M with 4GB DDR3 RAM with onboard HD3000 iGPU on Windows Home Premium x64.

Thanks again!

I found a solution that worked for me. I had the same problem with this setup:

- Intel Core i3 2310M / 2.1 GHz
- 4GB Ram
- Intel HD Graphics 3000 Dynamic Video Memory Technology 5.0
- Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
- XBMC 10.1 Dharma

When starting Xbmc the "NT Kernel System" thread would lock up. Using Process Explorer I found that the problem was with the file "IaStor.sys". This is a Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver.

My version of the driver was v10.1.0.1008. After updating to the latest driver (Supplied by Asus, v10.5.0.1026) everything works fine. Both Dharma and latest nightly will now startSmile

I hope this could solve the problems for others out there alsoSmile

You are a lifesaver, thanks so much.

After everyone reported this fix I originally dismissed it as I thought the "Rapid Storage Technology" driver dealt solely with RAID or SSD, neither of which apply to my laptop. Plus, I am using Eden not Dharma. But yes indeed, my intel chipset on the Asus N53S also uses the iastor.sys driver and updating it fixed my xbmc. Seems like a pretty significant bug to make our computers go so wonky though; I hate having to put my computer through a hard shutdown [especially since I DON"T use SSDs...].

Thanks again for your excellent troubleshooting!
