So where does that leave the AMD E350 and the Intel D525?

I'm asking because the Zotac ND22 is the same price as the Jetway Mini-Top Atom Dual-Core 525 NVIDIA here in Canada

I'm also considering the Zotac ZBOX-AD02-U for a little cheaper. What do you guys think?

If the 2 boxes you are looking at were the ND22 (celeron / Ion) vs the Jetway (525/ion) assuming all other things equal and the price was the same, why not buy the more powerful CPU, the ND22? Are there are other attributes of the Jetway vs the ND22 (for example power usage or noise level) that are important to you? I think the atom might use less power but I could not say if it is a difference of consequence and I have no idea on how noisy either box is.

if you are doing linux, at least for now, you are best off not doing AMD.

OK, so not to stop the conversation because it is getting more interesting by the minute, BUT... I have made my decision.

I am building my own.

Memory: Crucial 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1066
USB Drive: Patriot Xporter XT Boost 8GB Flash Drive
MOBO: ASRock E350M1 AMD E-350 APU
Case: Antec ISK 100

My intention is to run the hole system off openELEC booted from the USB. IF that won't work for me, my fall back is an old laptop 250GB HDD that is fading fast, but would hold me over til I can get domething else.

I realize this particular case is a tight fit, but I like it tight... as long as there is a fan. Seriously though, anandtech.com pulled it off with an HDD installed... so I'm feelin pretty good.

Now is not the time to tell me I screwed up. Actually its frida night, so Newegg.com has processed anything yet, so now IS the time to fix all my mistakes for me.

Thanks peeps. I can't wait!

I just found a Foxconn NT330i for $150 with free ship. This is $100 cheaper than the Jetway (525/ion) and ND22 (celeron / Ion).

So tempted...
should I jump on it?

That is one of the boxes I have, it is the one that I used in the video showing mq2 running on an atom. It works well. Here is the openelec page on that box.

If you desire to get rid of the initial BIOS screen
http://openelec.tv/forum/12-guides-tips-...t-bios#958

This is a good read
http://joel.thegoodmanblog.com/2010/10/2...nn-nt330i/

and I would review this entire thread Got my foxconn nt 330i, now what? If your box comes with the older bios, there is a newer one that helps keep the fan noise down. Be aware like most of these nettops, there is a fan so it makes fan noise, it is not a problem for me as it is in a cabinet, I would say it is on par with my PS3 as far as sound level.

After everything written in this thread you have picked hardware that likely wont work, at least for now (read the link). I dont know what to say, your a rebel, keep us updated on how it works out.

Foxconn NT330i for $150, not bad at all for an OpenELEC box...

However, if you dont need built-in WiFi,
i think that the $150 Giada CUBE-N3-D2OB
would be slightly better feature-wise...

* Front USB
* Front Audio
* Front Card Reader
* Rear eSATA
* Optical OUT

Just my 2cents Tongue

Oh my, at the end of the day I did completely forget the AMD/Linux debacle... That is why I ordered Friday night and asked you guys for input. I never claimed to be smart or build systems routinely. Fortunately, I was able to cancel my order and now I have got this squared away. Thanks Eskro and ClayPigeon for keeping me on the straight and narrow.
