Hey there everyone,

So i was looking at some apple TV videos on youtube and had a few questions

right now i use a PC and have 11 - 1.5TB hard drives all filled with movies.

10 drives are all 720p and 1080p MKV files
1 drove all avi files

about 4500 movies

1) can i use a powered USB hub so apple TV will see all 11 drives?

2) after its hacked will it play 720p and 1080p MKV files

3) are the new apple tv's hackable? if i buy one today at bestbuy?

thank you all for your time

cheers

Apple TV or Apple TV2? I can't answer those questions for the original Apple TV, but I can for the ATV2.

You will not be able to connect the drives directly to the ATV2. You would want to leave them in the PC, or get multiple NAS devices to connect to a switch -> router -> ATV2.

Yes, they will play the video files you have described, keeping in mind output is limited to 720p.

Thanks for the info.

When you say output is limited to 720p will it still play the 1080p movie just down sample to 720p?

cheers

As far as your third question. From my understanding if you bought one today from bestbuy, you will be able to jailbreak it.

You may have to run the nightly version of xbmc on it depending on the what version of ios is on it, but should still work.
