On a standalone-machine I would prefer ubuntu or xbmc-live, but on a Machine which has to grab data from a network-share I would go for windows, especially if all other pcs are also o using windows as their main os.
It's harder to build a network between ubuntu and winxp/win7 (compared to a network between windows xp and windows 7).

Furthermore the NTFS-HDD-Handling is more secure than the one in Ubuntu.
So if you're building a NAS for you're NTFS-Drives, then windows should be the choice, imo.

this sounds like a pretty obvious post... it is essentially saying that if you are doing stuff in windows then it is better to use windows.

if you have a network with multiple pc's i would just use all fedora/ xbmc-live machines since windows doesnt play nicely with nfs/ sshfs (eventhough linux can mount smb shares, windows machines seem to only want to talk to other pc's using microsoft-smb).

if i was building a nas i wouldnt use ntfs. eventhough fedora can read and write to windows-ntfs it is just logical to use native ext-3 file system.
