CALLING SERIOUS TESTERS: AudioEngine needs your help for testing before merge!
#16
Setup 1: Apple TV 2, ATV Software 4.2.1 (iOS 4.3.1) connected to reciever, Philips HTS 3270 5.1 home cinema system, connected via optical, AC3 and DTS enabled

Setup 2: Apple TV 2, ATV Software 4.2.1 (iOS 4.3.1) connected to TV via HDMI, not capable of AC3 nor DTS (so those checkboxes are disabled), downmix to 2.0 channels

Both machines: Menu click working, played 5.1 and 2.0 AC3, ACC and MP3 streams without problems. Sync is perfect.

No crashes until now.

Will upload log later...

keith Wrote:Cosmicvibes, Please enable debugging and pastebin your xbmc.log file and add it to your report. Thx for the feedback!

Ah sorry, my bad. Not used to this - even had to work out how to do that! Full report below:

PasteBin of xbmc.log: http://pastebin.com/tsuVa3mh

XBMC 20110612-fbc8568 ATV2: 4.1.1 Build: 1553
No Receiver
HDMI to Bush TV:
Audio Output: HDMI (or Analog works fine also)
AC3/DTS off

Playing AC3/5.1 encoded files - finally they downmix correctly to 2.0!! Woohoo, now I can actually use my ATV2!

Also had to remove guisettings.xml to fix the gui audio problem.

AppleTV: IOS 4.2.2 (2203); build: XBMC PRE-11.0 Git(20110620-862ff92) Compile: Jun 2011)
Reciver: Sony DE-597; connection to ATV2 via optical audio
XBMC settings: Optical/coax. 5.1 speakers. Both AC3 and DTS selected.

Played 1 TV episode (5.1), 1 DTS movie. Sounded fine.

XBMC.Log - http://pastebin.com/81vf0AsA

EDIT:
While these videos played fine, when I stopped playing them (I only played a few min, otherwise the log got much to big to send), my sound disappeared form my video add-on (TWIT Live). Video was fine, but I had no sound.
Restarted XBMC, still no sound ... whether streaming live, or on one of the recorded TWIT shows. I listen to TWIT a *lot*, so this is a deal breaker for me ... sound is fine for playing my own videos, but not for my video add-in (I only have the one add-in).

I downgraded to the latest official - 10-8, released Jun 19 - and the sound is back for my video add-in.

This is the exact feedback we want, thanks Mike! BTW I edited your post and removed the < on your url, with them there it didn't link properly.

Still no sound from video addons. Still prompted dozens and dozens of times that scraper can not connect remote server.

IOW, no difference from last build.

keith, love your work. Long time user who figures I should finally help you guys out.
  1. Platform: ATV2
  2. Version of iOS: 4.2.2 (2203)
  3. Build: XBMC PRE-11.0 Git:20110620-86ff92 (Compiled: Jun 20 2011)
  4. Installed: dpkg -i atv2 pakage from here http://hadm.net/xbmc/ae/
  5. Network: WiFi-N only

  6. Receiver: Sony MUTEKI htddw7000 Home Theatre System
  7. Connection: HDMI audio, AC3/DTS selected (16bit iOS Audio also selected)

The Bad:
No GUI sounds, deleted guisettings.xml file. GUI sounds now work
- NB: Should be an easy fix... Took me a bit of time getting my settings back in the way I like

Addons disabled / broken
- Skins: Hitchers-Alaska Revisited, XBMC-Back Row and Simplicity (Broken Dependencies)
- TV/Movie Info: TheMovieDB, TheTVDB (Enable button greyed out)
- Most (all?) addons have no radio buttons to configure
-- I tried force refresh on XBMC.org and Hitchers repo, both did not fix issues.
-- I also noticed python wasn't installed on ATV2. As a long shot, I apt-get installed this, restarted, refreshed, still no joy.
I know this isnt the area, but any help with add-ons would be appreciated!

The Good:
Great sound in playback. AV Receiver displaying DTS 3/2.1 and the blue 'DTS light' Smile
Possibly using less CPU (Usually sits around 3.5 - 4.0, seems to be sitting around 3.0 - 3.5 now)

Log files:
Fifth Element 1080 H.264 DTS 5.1 2.35 (12.8Gb)

Finding Nemo 720 H.264 DTS 5.1 (4.37Gb)

EDIT: Additional testing with 720p H.264 MKV movies containing the following audio:
DTS 2.0 - Works fine
Ogg Vorbis 2.0 - Works fine
Dolby Digital 2.0 - Works fine
Dolby Digital 5.1 - Works fine
AAC ? - Plays, but no audio <--- Original attempt
AAC ? - Plays, but no audio <--- Second attempt with different movie

... And 480p DivX AVI movies with the following audio
MP3 2.0 - Works fine
Dolby Digital 2.0 - Works fine

... And 480p Xvid AVI movies with the following audio
MP3 2.0 - Works fine
Dolby Digital 5.1 - Works fine
Dolby Digital 2.0 - Works fine

... And 480p MPEG AVI movies with the following audio
MP2 2.0 - Works fine (no typo)

Platform: ATV2
Version of iOS: 4.2.2 (2203)
Build: XBMC PRE-11.0 Git:20110620-862ff92 (Compiled: Jun 20 2011)
Receiver: Onkyo S9300 THX 7.1
Connection: HDMI, AC3/DTS selected, 7.1, (16bit selected)

transformers 5.1 AAC audio (all playback failed see log was the error)
Transformers rise of the moon trailer 2.0 AAC (plays fine)
Transformer revenge of the fallen 5.1 AAC (resumed a video about 10 mins in only background effects/music no dialog audio)
A time to kill 5.1 DTS (played fine)
Game of thrones h.264 5.1 DTS (no problems)
Log:http://paste2.org/p/1481109

I rebooted the ATV2 and loaded transformers 5.1 AAC again and this time it played fine for all of 5 minutes before crashing to the apple screen. This seems to happen with any file I have with 5.1 AAC audio, all previously played fine on the nighly, disabling ac3/dts doesn't fix any thing, The 2.0 AAC file works fine, anything 5.1 AAC crashes. so far no problems with any DTS files. I can provide a clip of the movie if needed but it would have to be about 10 minutes long to reproduce it.
Log:http://paste2.org/p/1481125
crashreporter: http://paste2.org/p/1481168

also all the video files seem to take longer to load up than on the nightly.

*edit*Just downgraded to the 6/18 (eedceeb) nightly build and all the files that didnt work with this AE build work flawlessly on that build.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

emkay Wrote:Hey Keith,

are these builds from

https://github.com/huceke/xbmc.git AE-restart

or from

https://github.com/gnif/xbmc.git AE ?

I'm building my own ones, so I just want to know which one you use.

Until now I didn't have a single crash with these build and always sound (even in the menus). My configuration is in the old dropbox folder we synced. Do you need a new one here in this thread?

Thanks a lot,
EmKay

https://github.com/huceke/xbmc.git AE-restart is what you wanna use for OSX/iOS/ATV2.

I'm not sure if this is a PAPlayer issue or an AudioEngine issue...

Platform: ATV2
Version of iOS: 4.2.2 (2203)
Build: XBMC PRE-11.0 Git:20110620-862ff92 (Compiled: Jun 20 2011)
Receiver: Yamaha R-V1103-audio connection to ATV2 via optical (HDMI from the ATV2 to the TV for video)
XBMC settings: Optical/coax. 5.1 speakers, AC3 selected

The American
720p: stereo plays fine but AC3 has no sound. With AC3 and Output stereo to all speakers selected, this also has no sound.
1080p: stereo plays fine, AC3 has no sound, and DTS tries to downsample and I get stuttering stereo with random freezes of video.

Log: http://pastebin.com/hTGb3Myf

Sidenotes: I have always had trouble with this receiver playing AC3 from the AppleTV variants (I have both an ATV1 & ATV2) on XBMC, as well as from my Mac mini. I submitted a trac ticket ages ago and for a small moment in time I did have some AC3 working (I think MKV files). BTW, AC3 does play fine with Sam's CrystalUbuntu linux stick on my ATV1.

Keith, works like a charm! Tested on the latest nightly running the latest iOS. DTS sounds even more amazing (running a Pioneer Elite VSX-33 AVR) and it's good to have the navigation sounds - what can I say, all the little things Wink

Thanks again, time for another donation.
