problems getting mediaportal pvr client working
#1
I've followed the guides to get this going but not having much luck.
Hopefully someone maybe able to help me as this is something I have looked forward to for a long time.

mediaportal tv engine on separate computer.
plugin on tvengine is installed and enabled.
Checked I can telnet to it, works fine.

Configured ip in tsreader for tvengine server.

Enable live tv, grabs the tv guide etc so thats a good sign.
But when I try and watch any tv it gives a timeout error.

All channels?

I've been working on my TV Server for a while, this wekkend I finally got it all working again. I'm using the MP 1.2Beta TV Server, got the 1.2 plugin as well and the latest "unofficial" latest windows build and even an openELEC PVR build all working.

I'm still seeing a few channels though that don't seem to play, although preview in MP TV Server works. I can't say where the problem is right now though, keeping an eye on it and when I get a chance I'll start collecting logs, etc.

Short answer: multiseat + tsreader => enable the rtsp options in the configuration settings of the MediaPortal TSReader PVR addon.

Why? By default, the TSReader addon tries to open the timeshift buffer file from the TVserver directly. It cannot find this file locally because it is on the remote TV server machine and therefore it fails.
Sharing over SMB is not yet supported.

See your short log:
Code:
open file D:\mediaportal_streaming\live2-0.ts.tsbuffer failed. Error code 3

@margro
I just came across this old post in a search, as I'm having problems getting XMBC Mediaportal PVR Client (1.2.3.117) running on Raspbmc, with the Server (1.2.3) running on Win7.

I have Frodo running with Mediaportal PVR Client running on the Windows host locally (using the default settings), so the system is set up OK.

I can test streaming from another PC using VLC using e.g. rtsp://192.168.10.115/stream0

I've tried changing to RTSP on the PVR client but it flashed up error saying something like "RTSP not available"

Can you help please?

Thanks

Brian

RTSP is not available in TSReader mode at the moment because it depends on the live555 library which is not included in the official PVR addons repository.

Two alternatives:
1) share your recordings and live TV folders and add a username/password combo to access the shares to the pvr addon settings. Use the TSReader mode without RTSP to play from the Windows share.
2) Put the pvr addon in ffmpeg mode. It will then use FFMpeg to play the rtsp stream. Note that ffmpeg RTSP will probably result in many playback artifacts and stuttering which I can't solve.

Hello margro,

my name is cal.
I have the same set-up as explained by BrianM.
I followed your instructions. Unfortunately wthout success.

I have share on the server (win machine) for the timeshift.
I can browse it from my xbmc machine (MK 802).
The pvr addon imports the channel list for radio and TV. When I try to watch a channel the timeshft starts but the access to the "file" ends in a timeout. I still believe it is looking for the file locally instead of on the server.
RTSP is not activated.

Unfortunately I ahve less control concerning the definition of the path to the timeshift folder as in the newet version of the pvr addon the locations are reported by the addon itself (when my understanding is right).

@BrianM: does it work on your side?

If you have another idea what I am doing wrong, an advice would be great.

Thank you,
cal

.....probably found the problem. Last build of pvraddon needed a patch as far as I can see from here.... http://www.dotnetdevelopers.net/XBMC/xbmcpvr.html
...even though I ma not sure where to put the nshare.dll

That nshare.dll patch is for NextPVR and not for the MediaPortal pvr addon.

Timeout is typical for share access problems.

For checking which exact url is used by the pvr addon, you should enable XBMC debug logging and then check the xbmc.log file for a line with "CTsReader:TranslatePath "
This line should both the location on the TV Server and the determined UNC link.

You should also test it with a recording and if you can access the recording share directly from XBMC's video player (outside the Live TV part).

As have RAM Disc for livetv the right shared path was tricky...
Unfortunately the stream is stuttering.... so it is not really usable at this moment.

How did you manage it? I have a standalone TV server (1.2.3) with a RAM disk for timeshift, unfortunately the corresponding path (here \\server\H$ ) cannot be used.

Thanks

Hi alpinestars,

I could not set the security settings/ share for the ramdisk itself, even though I shared it with access for everybody. There was only the "share for admnistrative tasks" active.

What I did, is:
- I created a folder on the RAM disc
- set the share of this folder accordingly (e.g. everybody full access or certain users with the access you want)
- I set in "timeshifting" - "folders" - "timeshift folders" the path to the folder on the ramdisc in the "Microsoft windows Network" e.g. \\server\timeshift.

Best regards, cal
