HTPC Build Review
The .mkv TV shows are small enough that I can throw one on a flash drive for testing. I'll see how that behaves and report back.

mkv and m4v are just container formats, if the content in the container is for example the same h.264 content, they should both play back equally assuming your player can read both containers and are using the same codec.
