'Blip' noise while watching DVD
#1
Hi guys,

I ripped a whole lot of my DVDs with Mac The Ripper and placed them in the xbmc library. The playbck is fine but it seems that whenever it gets to the next chapter is has this minute 1 second *blip* noise and I'm not sure why it is happening or how to get rid of it. The picture doesn't seem to be effected. It obviously never did this on the original DVDs so I'm puzzled as to why it is doing it now. If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix the problem it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Has anyone ever experienced this? This only happens with full disc rips of dvds and I don't know why. It is really annoying to hear a blip noise for every chapter change in a movie. I can take video footage of it occurring if that would help you all understand what I am talking about better. I know it is not an encoding problem as I can play them through VLC without any noises while it changes chapters

I use Windows 7 and also hear the blip (it's not a second but still noticeable) with full disc rips. I forgot about this because now I rarely use dvd rips.

Debug log tested with a recent git build.

The interesting part:

Code:
01:07:41 T:5852   ERROR: ffmpeg[16DC]: [ac3] incomplete frame
01:07:41 T:5852   ERROR: ffmpeg[16DC]: [ac3] frame sync error
01:07:41 T:5852   ERROR: CDVDPlayerAudio::DecodeFrame - Decode Error. Skipping audio packet
01:07:41 T:5852   DEBUG: CDVDPlayerAudio::Process - Decode Error

Hmm, that is weird you have it on your windows 7 machine, but at the same time i am happy i am not the only one with the problem. I don't often rip full dvds to my hard drive but there are still some I have. It would be good to work out what is causing this nevertheless

has anyone had a chance to look into this?

It would be good to finally get a fix on this... its quite annoying especially if you want to keep whole dvds on your hard drive for the special features

I have heard this as well on both Apple TV (gen1) and Linux. I think it has to do with.....

A DVD is made up of smaller files written on a DVD , or ripped DVD. The movie you watch may originate from several files on the disc. At the time the player switches from sale FILE2 to FILE2 you hear this blip.

I suspect it has to do with having to make a smooth transition from one file to another . It is an issue not unlike one that often plagued video editors who worked on older digital editing systems. In this case it may be aggravated by a certain amount of pre-loading necessary to make the transition or "hot switch" from one file to another

Same problem here, does not happen with all DVDs and it does not seem to be related so loading a new file from disk.

Same here, little noise when changing chapters. Started when using XBMC Eden. Using optical out on my Asrock ION 330HT system running Ubuntu.
Does anyone know if there is a fix for this yet?

Hi,

I have been having the same blip noise issue. I also see in the XBMC log file:

ERROR: ffmpeg[B0207000]: [ac3] incomplete frame

XBMC debug.log

I have not been able to switch over to using Eden, from Dharma, because of the blipping noise. I really do hope that a fix is found soon.
