Yes but the 20 drive is the most awesome-per-drive. How many of YOUR friends have a 20-drive rack mounted server??

I just did a little math to figure out the most economical and to put all the information in one list.

Drives= Number of Drives
TB= TB of storage excluding parity, I should subtract like 0.15TB per drive for format loss
Cost= Cost of the just system fully capable, including unRAID, $69 for 6 and $119 on the rest
Drives= Cost of all drives, 2TB @ $80
Total= Total cost if you build it all at once
Co/Tb = Cost of system per TB (useful if you have some drives already)
Tot/Tb = Cost of loaded system per TB

Code:
Drives  TB      Cost    Drives  Total   Co/TB   Tot/TB
6       10      349     480     829     34.9    82.9
10      18      439     800     1239    24.4    68.8
12      22      528     960     1488    24      67.6
16      30      731     1280    2011    24.4    67
20      38      822     1600    2422    21.6    63.7

I'm thinking I'm going to go with the 12 drive build, if 22TB isn't enough shoot me now please ><

So I know you recommended not to buy all your HDDs at the same time. What do you think is a good amount to buy at one time?
