Upgrade to Lion
#1
Since apple is going to launch lion today, and no doubt a few of us will be upgrading, what is the recommendation from the devs, is it better to just wait until the new software has been out a while??

This dev recommends that if what you have works, why change. There's nothing in XBMC that 'changes' moving to 10.7 except for new headaches (smb, etc)

From a skinning point of view, is Lion supported? I.e. can I put it on my Macbook and without ending up in a dead valley :-)
My skins:

Amber
Quartz

Hmm

I upgraded the iMac this afternoon and now the XBMC running Mac Mini in the living room cannot access any files over the network.

Not upgraded the mac mini yet but i was planning to do so tomorrow.

Cant troubleshoot it much now but will report back tomorrow, perhaps others will find a solution by then.

I think they still have the same issue in Lion with the appleHDA.ktext that they introduced in 10.6.8.

XBMC ran fine for me on Lion accessing a NAS via SMB but switching between media with different audio types (DTS 5.1 on a movie then trying to play a stereo AVI) made the sound go away on HDMI. The only way to get the sound back was to put the Mac to sleep and wake it up or reboot the machine.

I rolled back to 10.6.7, since XBMC is all the machine I was testing with is used for.

I've been experience the same sound problems, how do i roll back from the 10.6.8? or is there some workaround? Been searching for weeks now and this post is the first that describes my problem.

SMB on 10.7 is only compatible with SMB 2.0

Indeed. None of my XBMC installations can access SMB shares on a MacMini upgraded to Lion overnight:

Any workaround or do I just go back to 10.6.8 under which SMB was just fine?

I've got Lion 10.7 running on my macbook pro and I dont have any issues accessing the shares on my Windows 2003/2008 servers either through finder or within XBMC.

The problem is that XBMC cannot 'see' SMB shares hosted on a machine running Lion. After doing some searching I see it is a widespread problem, the only solution to which is to install SAMBA 3. Instructions are here:

Install SAMBA 3

It's the other way around that's an issue. Sharing things from Mac to anything else using SMB. As in the mac is the file server.

Edit: I take it back. We'll get more questions about how to get this to work.
