From which Group do you belong!?

Maddog808,

thanks for the pointers. Wow, those are busy remotes! I guess I'm used to the WDTV Live or Apple remotes; very simple.

Anyone know of a simple remote to use with the acer?

Lol. Usually, people are trying to figure out how to use a different remote for the apple TV because it doesn't have enough buttons. You actually want to use it on a acer Revo? Check out the wiki:

Thanks! I can't imagine what you would need all those extra buttons for with xbmc. The boxes box remote looks great.

The buttons I wish my apple TV remote had:

Stop
Fast forward
Rewind
Info
Track forward
Track back
Mute
Page up
Page down

Also the numeric buttons come in handy when watching live TV on the HTPC.

I guess if all you've had for xbmc is the Apple TV, you wouldn't know what you're missing. I had the MCE remote first, so to me the ATV remote is super annoying. Having to press and hold buttons to get to the stop, rewind, etc isn't cool. Although it doesn't bother me enough to do anything about it. You get used to it I guess.

I remapped up to skip, down to skip back, left and right to rewind/ff. I changed the skip forward to 15 seconds and the skip back to 7 seconds. works great.

For volume I just use my TV or receiver remote. I have a harmony, but I never liked it. The more remotes you have, the more manly you are! :-)

Is there a reason why there is no group with an AVR?

I would say, I am on

Group #8 (wants anything mixed together in a gigabit ethernet / WiFi environment)

* mixed Networked Environment (HD Ready, Full-HD, HD3D, PC monitors, Notebooks via WiFi...)
* Integration of SAT Receivers / PVR (Vu+, Dreambox, Linux-VDR, MythTV, DVBViewer etc.)
* wants central NAS for content, database, settings
* HDTV possess HDMI ports
* HDReady only Component-In
* HD(3d) projector support
* wants to play SD movies (TS-Streams)
* wants to play DVD movies (VOB)
* wants to play 720P movies (TS-Streams)
* wants to play 1080P movies (BR, MKV, TS-Streams...)
* wants to Bistream HD-Audio
* wants to play 3D 1080P movies (MKV)
* wants to play some games virtually on emulators (no more PS2 / PS3 / XBox / Game Cube / Wii /...)
* wants to have seamless integration of all devices
* wants to play-back any content to any device
* wants to have all this high-tech stuff almost invisible - except the screens of course (WAF)

--- Future whishes:
** wants to have automated media conversions (ad-removing, down/upscaling, ripping of new disks to the library)
** wants to be able to better organize content ( sets, own sub-libraries for the family members, more detailled criteria than just movies and tv-shows )
** wants to play (headless) music everywhere in the house (mp3, internet radio, satelite radio...)
** wants to have real multi-room Audio / Video (content follows user)
** wants to have seemless integration of live-tv / pvr recording / epg integration / timer settings from the xbmc UI / recognition of already recorded content
** wants to integrate home automation features (light scenes, AC, heating, shades, communication system: PBX POTS VoIP, security stuff)
** wants PiP / PaP for library content and streamed live-tv

thanks for the idea xbmcg but i think its perfect as it is with the 7 groups...

including game emulators would be a real mess as not only your group#8 can play games
but group#7/6/5 all can while some may have issues with emulating PS2 and
i wont buy 40 htpc's just to confirm which emulator run fluidy on which build,,

see what i mean?

wanna game? just google the requirements for your game and buy hardware needed for your game..
the game users wanna play really dictates whats gonna be in their systems,,,

then there's only emulator players then there's hardcore PC gamers and bla bla bla..

wanna game? buy gamer hardware and stuff it in an HTPC enclosure...

now, for DVR, there's so many solutions out there now,
i dont feel the need to add this feature in my groups... yet...

same thing applies here,
just google the requirements for the DVR software/hardware u wanna run
and buy hardware needed...

I'm not quite understand your question, because any HTPC can be connected to AVR......

>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

When's the last time this list was updated? For current situation, it probably be a group 4. It seems like all of the mini PCs in group 4 are kinda what I want, but they all look to be pretty pricey.

A mele a2000 seems nice, but it doesn't have a hard drive or optical drive. xbmc probably doesn't really work well on it yet since there's no builds for it.

Any recommendations for a cheap pc that would belong in the group 4 category? Possibly with more than just hdmi/vga out?
